Here is a video that needs to be viewed by your/our mid school and high school kids. Not just viewed but tested to determine whether they  paid attention. If they fail the after test, take away their cell phones. They will not fail on the second try.

This is not just about Avogadro's number but how we got there in the first place....or the last place. The speaker is a scruffy looking guy who belies his appearance. He explains the subject well.

Why does Avogadro matter?  It is not so much the subject details as it is the importance of learning about how things work.

(I expect that DL and Hermes may have already explained this stuff to the kids in their lives.

That was fascinating. Can't wait till Hermes comments on this :)

Quite so.

I enjoyed this video! This was interesting, tying the history of Avogadro's number into a nice narrative. Fortunately, my sons went to magnet schools and we didn't have to intervene with nonsense in their education, just work as needed with them.

As for responsibilities, education of children relies on three parties- the child, the parent and the teacher. The minimum number of legs for a stool is three, for stability. So too, with education, each leg (person) in the tripod must be present for a good foundation. I've been in all three positions, and having blasé parents leads to blasé students.
