The Russians launched the first Sputnik on this day some 63 years ago.  With that, a whole new era began.  My telephone can tell how fast I am walking and the precise direction that I am walking because of the GPS ability of our many satellites.

I reckon that the Ruskies prompted us to advance to this state of miraculous capacity.
