I need a few to complain.Know-it-all-Doctors need to be cut down or off.I went in for major surgery in March only after it took three doctors 4 months of testing to figure out what was wrong in the first place. Then had to wait six weeks for surgery.Well I was told recovery would take 4-5 weeks and then I should be good as new.Well during the surgery the doctor somehow managed to pop my hip out of place.I didn't know until a couple of weeks after I stopped taking pain killers.Called three times explaining something was wrong told to wait until my checkup.I go back in only to have him tell me "Well that didn't happen during surgery".I was told they would send me to P/T to see what the problem was.Thats where I found out about my hip.Not only did it throw off my lower spine it also caused problems with both knees and ankles. My P/T did correct the problem but warned me it was very likely to happen again because my hip is now weak. It's been 5 weeks since P/T was over and here my hip is popped back out again. :brick:  My Doctor who admitted no fault..well I get the bill for P/T and I owe nothing. It was all taken care of.But still means I have to dish out a ton of money for the surgery that screwed up my hip and will have to deal with pain over and over again.

You need to contact an attorney as soon as possible. He or she can explain to you your options and you can go from there. In the meantime, I strongly suggest seeing a certified physical therapist about your hip. I had a bad hip when I was 19 due to a martial arts mishap and had I not seen a specialist I probably would have seen permanent damage.
I want bad people to look forward to and celebrate the day I die, because if they don't, I'm not living up to my potential.

^I agree that you should seek out an attorney asap.  Also, I am sorry that the doctor messed up your hip..that really sucks.  He isn't admitting fault because he knows you can take legal action and doesn't want you to be able to say he told you it was his fault in court.

I have been talking to one.But it seems that with the condition that I had the surgery for ,alot of people have hip like pain.Which is total crap because the area it's in isn't near the bone.Nor does it involve any bone.Plus I'm being told that a fall I had 6 months before the surgery could have caused it.But I would think that somewhere in that time that I would have had pain. And seeing how I hit my left knee in the fall and my right hip is the problem. :brick:  it doesn't make much sense.I am going back into see the physical therapist I had seen for my hip when this started. But it looks like that I have a nerve that it being pinched,so I'm not sure what she will do.Right now I'm at the point where I don't care just as long as it stops hurting. But I will be going in Monday to get my records from the surgery and CT Scan,Ultrasound and results of bloodwork.

I am so sorry you to hear your story - that really sucks!

You're on the right track.  Write down everything, dates, times, procedures.  Nasty business to be sure.

I hope that you are able to heal more fully and don't have to live with any pain from this.

It's tough, but sometimes you have to push the medical profession to get what you need.
They are a bit overwhelmed, I understand, but still... these are lives they're dealing with.

Consult with a lawyer sounds like a good first step once you've got your records.

That's a sad story.  I feel for you.  From this side of the pond I wouldn't know how to advise you but it seems to me your fellow Americans are making good sense.  All the best!  :)

Your surgeon is actually at fault for not warning you properly of the potential risks...so even if it is very common, he still messed up.  Maybe you need a different lawyer.

That is what I have been saying.I was told about bleeding, maybe having to have a transfusion and well some other not so pretty things.I was given this huge booklet on the surgery and side effects and such. But this was never mentioned.Maybe I'm just the odd one.

So true they are overwhelmed which is why I'm not out for any personal money.I have alot of respect for anyone in the medical field. But I also know what it's like going from doctor to doctor being told it was all in my head. This is the first doctor I've ever had on this situation that listened to me and did further testing. But when it came to the problems with my hip he seemed to just throw it off to the side.I even don't have a issue paying for the surgery because it was needed.Although I seem to go back on saying that when I'm in pain  :eek2: .I just think all of the other stuff PT,Medicine should be covered.

What leads you to think the doctors are the ones who popped your hip out of place?

Well it wasn't like that before surgery. And after surgery I had to spend four weeks in bed.So there was no way I could have pushed (or popped) it out of place.Seeing how I was on three kinds of pain kills after surgery I was in no pain for weeks, until I stopped them. Also the surgery required my legs to be set in a certain way.I won't go into details of the surgery because of personal reasons. My hip wasn't the only issue I was given Morphine twice and both times I was given to much.I stopped breathing both times and had to be given oxygen. Also my PT and general practice doctor believe this is how it happened.Because of the allignment of the hips (pretty much a straight line) and the strength of the bones,it can be very hard to pop the bone out.I have nor have had issues with my bones,I've never even had a broken bone. And have always taken very good care of myself. And seeing how the fall I had was months before again both my PT and GPD think I would have had issues months before even surgery.I had a CT Scan which showed nothing and a X-ray before surgery which showed nothing.I am finding this to be more common with more searching. And finding that women are not told this could happen when being told about the surgery. Also when it comes to the hospital paying four thousand dollars in my PT bills I think that speaks for itself. And I was told that PT I started recieving today and will for the next three months will be paid to.I think that shows admitting a mistake without coming out and saying it.

Update: And I did find out today that most of my surgery will be covered. So instead of oweing 16k I have 3k to pay on it.This happened just with me asking questions. My records show that the day I went into the hospital I had no prior injuries including spine or hip. After talking to a few people at the hospital I think everything is sorted.I wanted to since I needed the surgery will pay a set amount, including testing before and after for all matters due to the condition I had.But all of my medicine,P/T and GP doctor appointments for this matter (hip, spine) will be covered.I don't see why matters like this can't be solved so easily.I guess I was very lucky though to have had the hospital take detail info before the surgery.I feel much better.
