Really exceptional piece of work DL. I suspect that it might have had something to do with your physics background and the math that is so much a part of that discipline. You had to get all those angles and intersections just right.

I have the urge to build something much simpler.

A current TV series that includes Ted Danson as an old fart who is hired by a sexy lawyer lady. Never mind the story, which is worth some good laughs. The lawyers office has a fairly conspicuous decoration apparently made from wooden parts.  It has sticks making rectangles, triangles and circles. All stuck together in such a way as to create a sort of statue of geometric figures. I Gotta make on of those....why I do not know, except that it appeals to my fascination with geometry.   

I'd like to see a picture of it.

Nice tool Tank. The price you paid was a steal. A miter saw of that description would cost $250 to 300 here in the colonies.

DL and whomever, Out with the taped connections, Use some PVC plumbing pipe and a heat gun, or boiling hot water immersion to make whatever adapters you need for the vacuum attachment.

Tank... check out the use of a tornado attachment to separate the sawdust in a separate receptacle before it gets to the vac filter.. It is a simple plastic part that fits the top of a five gallon.....or 20 liter bucket. Costs about 20 dollars over here. And one more thing...Keep your fingers out from under that evil sawblade.

The miter saw is a marvelous tool for some projects. For higher precision small parts, consider building a sled for your table saw

Yeah, I've been lazy in that regard. I have ABS pipe in close sizes. I made some kumiko projects which required a sled for the precision required. I don't recall if I've ever posted them here, so here they are. First one is a pattern called "asa-no-ha", which is a hemp plant in Japan. It's used in children's bedrooms as a sign for good health. The second is called "square dance", don't know why. Except for the long straight pieces, all cuts are made with a sharp chisel and the entire things are held together by a friction fit.

I found this for a brief moment in the trailer for the show on IMDB--haven't seen the show myself. Not a great image, just a screen shot from a low resolution video, but appears to fit Icarus's description of the item. Ignore the picture frame in the background (though of course the item itself is in the background of the shot).

Yes that is the one Recusant.  For some reason that kind of stuff grabs my interest.  Certainly not in the same league as the eceptional work that DL has done.
