Nothing wrong with that, perhaps it's even helpful. (I found an open access PDF of the paper if anybody is interested.)

Nice tool Tank. The price you paid was a steal. A miter saw of that description would cost $250 to 300 here in the colonies.

DL and whomever, Out with the taped connections, Use some PVC plumbing pipe and a heat gun, or boiling hot water immersion to make whatever adapters you need for the vacuum attachment.

Tank... check out the use of a tornado attachment to separate the sawdust in a separate receptacle before it gets to the vac filter.. It is a simple plastic part that fits the top of a five gallon.....or 20 liter bucket. Costs about 20 dollars over here. And one more thing...Keep your fingers out from under that evil sawblade.

The miter saw is a marvelous tool for some projects. For higher precision small parts, consider building a sled for your table saw

Yeah, I've been lazy in that regard. I have ABS pipe in close sizes. I made some kumiko projects which required a sled for the precision required. I don't recall if I've ever posted them here, so here they are. First one is a pattern called "asa-no-ha", which is a hemp plant in Japan. It's used in children's bedrooms as a sign for good health. The second is called "square dance", don't know why. Except for the long straight pieces, all cuts are made with a sharp chisel and the entire things are held together by a friction fit.

Built this a while ago. Your suggestion works perfectly!

I have a similar dust collection setup. My separator is the Oneida "Dust Deputy", but there are plenty of other brands that work as well.

I think the cyclone unit was £12 and the blue bin about £40 and the Vax was decades old and one of those things one holds to 'just in case'.

Utilitarian little dust-eater cart, Tank!  May it serve your shop and your lungs well. :thumb:

It's been many moons, but I recall you posting your kumiko work previously. Good to see it again though. Marvellous stuff, and a tribute to your patience and meticulous skill.   :thumb:

Thanks! I thought I had, but it was lazier easier to post again rather than go looking. I always wanted to try the technique, and yes, it is tedious. I've a couple more pieces to make, at some point. After that, this particular itch will have been scratched.

It does a great job. I am always pleased when I empty the blue bin and see what would have ended up all over the place!

Thanks! That took a LOT of time. You don't see the vat of culled pieces that didn't fit, in the finished article.

Really exceptional piece of work DL. I suspect that it might have had something to do with your physics background and the math that is so much a part of that discipline. You had to get all those angles and intersections just right.

I have the urge to build something much simpler.

A current TV series that includes Ted Danson as an old fart who is hired by a sexy lawyer lady. Never mind the story, which is worth some good laughs. The lawyers office has a fairly conspicuous decoration apparently made from wooden parts.  It has sticks making rectangles, triangles and circles. All stuck together in such a way as to create a sort of statue of geometric figures. I Gotta make on of those....why I do not know, except that it appeals to my fascination with geometry.
