Quote from: billy rubin on October 19, 2022, 02:16:00 PMwhat are the applications of that level of precision on things that large?

I don't know, but they are showing off their capabilities very well to anyone who needs that kind of precision. They don't mention the accuracy, but I'm guessing that it is quite good as well.

Ooh! This, I am totally giving a watch.

Always fascinated me how they managed to make all them tiny parts even back in the days when precision machinery operated with a completely different understanding of "precision."

They are very useful, just not alone. Chucks, tooling, tools to sharpen tooling.  Indicators, indicator stands, calipers. Collets, indexing collets.

And after you have everything you need you realize that the ways are worn slam the fuck out and need to be scraped. So you buy scrapers, surface plates...

A lathe is a deep, deep rabbit hole.

This is the Eames Lounge Chair and ottoman I refurbished recently. I bought it in Paris in 1979 and after enjoying it for many years, I decided to let my daughter have it to enjoy for a change. The oil recommended by Herman Miller brought out the palisander (rosewood) beautifully and the leather cushions are looking good after cleaning. It was worth the effort, because current prices for these are quite steep.

Still a beauty in its fifth decade. You've done it proud.  :)

That chair is absolutely gorgeous!
