When I said 'stone axes and spears' I meant approximately that sort of level.  We're going to fall a long way, whatever.  But I've picked up small pre-Roman bits of slag from primitive iron smelting near my village, so maybe that would still be remembered.

I think a lot would be remembered. Just the amount of crap we have laying around would give a far better advantage than generations before when big disasters happened. The only massive problem I could see would be the reliance on advanced technology that requires highly specialised tools but in theory as long as those with the knowledge are around (and you only need a handful) they would be able to link up with existing infrastructures.

Pandemics, ecological disaster, technological disaster, war and non-anthropogenic events are a part of the natural ebb and flows that have and will happen time and time again I think more so than ever before are humans in a better situation to deal with the aftermath of such events and get life back to semblance of what it was prior. Especially as those that survive are the ones that are most suited to the new environment and in many cases knowledge is a big factor in that.
