The ambition to get America's trade/budget deficits under control seems a reasonable aspiration.
It's all under control though, the magical tariffs (which definitely aren't taxes) will have them rolling in money.

It does seem ridiculous that America was spending so much to defend Europe.
He didn't have to be so spiteful and deny intelligence to Ukraine and he could have given more warning.
I suppose he did give warning but Trump 1 said all sorts of ridiculous contradictory stuff he didn't do.
As has been observed those that observe, Trump II is doing the stuff he said he was going to do.
Maybe the Canadian fearfulness isn't as silly as I thought.

trumpism is a real force in america. i work with people every day who repeat nonsense about current events and the people involved. i cannot discuss it with them because of their ignorance and weird beliefs.

how do you discuss politics rationally with someone who explains that joe biden stays young by drinking the blood of murdered children? or who complain that alexandria ocasio cortez has a bank account worth $40 million? her paltry finances are public record, but that doesnt matter.

people that i work with think that ukrainians deserve to die because zelensky didnt wear a suit.

Bullshit: Value Added Taxes (Vats) are just as punitive on imports as tariffs.

Vats are applied to local production of goods and services and imports equally.

Perhaps to improve the efficiency of their economy the US could consider a national VAT, like civilized countries have, instead of a dog's breakfast of local sales/other taxes.

He was elected by a majority of voters, he does all the shit he does and the majority of Americans don't seem to mind, many are elated.  Trump couldn't do anything without America, Vance is next in line, America is a problem.

Trump announces 25% tariffs on car imports to US

Tariffs are taxes charged on goods imported from other countries.

The companies that bring the foreign goods into the country pay the tax to the government. Firms may choose to pass on some or all of the cost of tariffs to customers.

Trump's plan for car tariffs is his latest in his wider drive to protect American businesses and boost manufacturing within the US.

But while the measures can protect domestic businesses, they also raise costs for businesses reliant on parts from abroad.

Analysts have estimated that the cost of a car made using parts from Mexico and Canada alone could add $4,000-$10,000 to its cost depending on the vehicle, according to the Anderson Economic Group.

Trump told reporters the tariffs would be "permanent" and reiterated his reasoning that: "If you build your car in the United States there is no tariff."
