That quote of Epicurus was very like what I meant-the logic was impeccable in the piece I saw.
I am third generation atheist-my grandmother, least neurotic person I have ever met, was about 14 when she was transferred to another church after years at her first. When told that the new(to her) cant was the unvarying truth and god's will she said to herself "this is nonsense" and she forever after was an atheist.
Now I tell the theists that I do not believe that there is a ghost sitting in everything and making us in his image-that would degrade any god I could think of. The truth must be followed or I would be a hypocrite and a fool to 'believe' somethng I know to be false. The 'faithful' tend to have lower IQs and lower moral values than atheists for several reasons. As a science minded person I learn the processes involved in any area of study and  then move on-I do not pick an explanation out of a four times translated book ; the 'word of god' and use that alleged truth when it is all so contradictory. There is a thought. A 'god' less logical than 98% of all humans is a sad sack.
Buddhists follow a wise and thoughtful teacher who wandered the earth and learned the best way for folks to get along-he doesn't demand obedience and sacrifice-he doesn't call for jail for people who are not harming anybody else. You have these alleged morals and yet promulgate murders and graft with the comfortable knowledge that bad people are getting jailed and ruined to help rich people stay rich. Sex laws send these kids out to get murdered by the sickos and you feel all warm and fuzzy that these cops are jailing nonhurtful people. Keep your sexually frustrated and sick minds off my NATURAL rights to property and medicine-you make great slaves for the morons who belong to the state and the statist mess we suffer in today.  Yet we all pay hella amounts because you deists see a ghost as higher in value than real humans-this is absurd-and it does not require the state-religious(commies) they are as stupid and evil as any other religion. It is FAITH that allows commies to kill humans to make human life better. Another illogical progression. They have made profits out as more evil than murder. They have, like theists, placed FAITH in illogic-freedom is hated because it allows each human the right to make his own decisions-which spawns far healthier societies than socialism could. Since socialism and religion are the same thing and therefore born of the desire to hurt 'others' who 'sin', it is doomed for any future that could be considered good. We are in a dark age of political and economic chicanery. Those hundreds of millions of deaths in purges and war  happened because paper replaced gold and NONMONEY became available for billions of uneconomic enterprises which included the wars and communism. Thus empowered with money they didn't earn(stolen money) they used this stolen power to impose their stupid antilife religion of socialism. The absolute illogical nature of religious belief can be distorted and exploited by evil men as we see the world today. In 1904 after a century plus of absolute freedom prices hit their historic low for the essentials of life. Beer cost a nickel and included free sandwiches. Man's capacity for religion and stupidity jibed with Honey Fitz Fitzgeral's criminal schemes (JFK's Grandfather-who slapped prohibition on us for the profits it generated for crooks in power)and we inherited a kleptocracy. These 'lawmen' are merely agents of the medical establishment, they arrest potheads and ignore BIG drug dealers so they are cowards and hypocrites.  The most conservative friendly society has LEGAL drugs,LEGAL prostitution and NO TAXES-a future we want soon-and if the dollars fall to their true value we will see it this year!

Quote from: "gorgedoc"God does not exist?  Does that computer you are looking at have a maker?  How do you know it had a maker?   You've never met him, probably never thought about him. But you know she or he must exist.  A computer could not have appeared by a random set of events, but needed a body of knowledge to be created.

My ex-bf made my computer. I saw him do it.

Ugh, that argument holds no water. I'm so tired of it.   Until you can prove that YOUR God exists (as opposed to all of the other God's out there), I'll choose to believe the much more likely scenario that all deities are human inventions, instead of the more popular religious belief that all humans are some deity's invention.

The self-interview in question sounds so familiar!  Perhaps Dawkins?  I'm curious now, so I'll let you know what I find.  :)
