The forum has declared my new internet provider provided ip address as Chinese.
It doesn't even allow looking at pages, I've had to use my nefarious purposes laptop which has a VPN.  >:(

Take my advice, don't listen to me.

Boo bloody hoo!

I decided to blow some of the interest accruing in one of my current accounts on a new camera - thinking that I could recoup about a third on the old one.

So my Nikon D5300 arrived today. 24 as opposed to 16Mpix. Only came with 18-55 lens but I have my Sigma 18 - 250 . , .

Shit, the Sigma will not autofocus on the new camera!

D5100 will have to go without the 55 - 200 that came with it, thankfully that works on the new job. What to do with the Sigma, keep it for manual only focus or sell it and put all the money to another wide range lens?

After a few trials decided that I could not cope with it on manual focus without support - hands no longer steady enough and muscles get tired too quickly.
Tomorrow is precious, don't ruin it by fouling up today.

Tripod then?

Yes, a tripod is good, but more convenient is a VR lens, if Dave's new lens is a Vibration Reduction type.

This is a bit inconvenient, I've tried using my phone's internet (and stopped it using the home network.)
And still I'm banned as Chinese.
What does it mean?
Is the invasion impending?
Should I have used my wife's mother's birthplace to get dual citizenry?

Take my advice, don't listen to me.

The Sigma has OS, optical stabilisation, but since the autofocus does not work can I be sure that the OS does? Tripods I keep for long exposures or "studio" (dining table) setups etc.

Tank, this was my general purpose lens, always on camera. Great for both pictures of bees from a foot (or closer) to something the other end of the street. Its focussing was quite fast, faster than I can manage manually. Decided to include it in the kit for sale and go for the Nikon AF-S DX 18-140, extra resolution will make up for loss of focal length if necessary. Another bite out of the interest!

Now the weather is warmer I might be tempted out more, like that day at the arboretum that I keep promising myself! Got a 90Mb/s SD card so burst storage may be faster.

You might need a software upgrade for the lens. Have a look at the sigma sight and look for lens compatibility. I had the same problem with a Sigma 70-300 that worked on the A290 but not on the A68.

Sigma do not list the DC 18-250 on their upgrade site . . . 200 & 300 but no 250.

Ho hum. Nikon lens arrives Saturday. Price about that I will be asking for the other stuff.

You actually have used the incompatibility to allow you to buy a new lens haven't you! :D

Be glad you're single!

Single, no dependants, flat paid for, only £20 road tax, no special person to leave money to (the one specialish person did not want to be in my will 'cos I won't be in hers!) and constantly about £50k behind the price of a bungalow round here. . . Local hospital will probably be able to buy some extra kit.

Interest is legitimate mad money!

Amazon has missed two deliveries in as many weeks. Last week it was a movie so I really didn't care. Yesterday it was a piece of test equipment that I needed TODAY. The latest I've heard is that it'll be here on Friday which means the job will have to wait until sometime next week.
