That there? It is kind of cool with the marble and whatnot, but it's still a big, rusty door. ???

Oh, I know it's just a big rusty door, but then I have a door fetish.

In my tour of the eastern mediterranean we have reached Turkey and the ancient city of Ephesus.

We start off with some holiness, with shots of the amphitheatre where Paul alledgedly preached to the Ephesans.

According to the Vatican, Ephesus was the place where the virgin Mary spent her last years.
A shot of me overlooking the valley where the ancient city was. Nice hat, right? ;D
The Temple of Artemis was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. This is a model of what it looked like.
The statue from the grand altar.
And, sadly, all that remains from the temple.

Asmo requested shots of cool old Fortresses. I do nothing if I don't deliver.
Turk fortress ca. 3rd Crusade
Ottoman sea fort at Pidgeon Island,Kushadasi.
The port town of Kusadasi, with the Navigator of the Seas ("my" ship) in port.

Strange but not a stranger

I love my car more than I love most people.

How long were you there, G85? I've never been out of North America, so it's hard for me to picture seeing so much history in one trip.

Went to Rome on friday.
Out from Rome on sunday morning. Arrived in Messina on Monday morning. Spent the next day at sea. Docked in Athens on Wednesday. Crossed the agean sea during the night to get to Kusadasi on Thursday. Crete on Friday. Saturday at sea. Sunday morning back in Rome.

Having left Crete, we are now in the last leg of the journey. :(
A few shots as we pass Messina going the other way:

The more sharp-eyed of you can make out Mt. Etna in the background.

A little company thruogh the straits.
The tallest cable mast I have ever seen. For reference, see the lighthouse next to it.

Check this place! The active volcano Stromboli. Asmo should build his lair here.
Check the smoke coming off the left of the caldera.
