50! Why, 50 is the new 40, which everyone knows is the new 30! And 30 is indistinguishable from 20 these days. Sure, you're practically a newborn!
Yeah... Right...

True, it's all downhill from 20, but with every following round digit, the slope gets steeper exponentially

Shhhhhh. I have a round digit birthday in the not-too distant future.
"We've thought of life by analogy with a journey, with pilgrimage which had a serious purpose at the end, and the THING was to get to that end; success, or whatever it is, or maybe heaven after you're dead. But, we missed the point the whole way along; It was a musical thing and you were supposed to sing, or dance, while the music was being played.

I dunno, you young sprogs of 50, you think you're old ...

On my way to work and saw this thread.

Happy birthday!! ^__^

Wiggum:"You have that much faith in me, Homer?"
Homer:"No! Faith is what you have in things that don't exist. Your awesomeness is real."

Which slope?  Honestly, I would say that I am better in pretty much every way (including physically, in better shape) at (almost) 32 than I was at 22.  At 22 there was no way I could have run 6.5 mph for an hour straight; I was a pack a day+ smoker!!!  And just in general, I would say I am more confident, smarter, more accomplished, and in general just happier than I was at 22.  So which hill is it that I am supposedly rolling down exponentially fast?

Which slope?
The creaky-leaky slope of gerascophobic misery.

A hill made of failed aspirations, shattered dreams, forgotten hopes, lost friends, past mistakes, closeted skeletons and so on.

My my.  Thank goodness my age induced dementia has made me forget all of those forgotten hopes and shattered dreams....sounds like it would be just awful if I could only remember it.   ;D

Asmodean

Yes, well... Good memory is a double-edged blade.

Oh dear, I don't think I like this hill. Where are the brakes? Is there a carousel I can get on instead?

No there isn't.  There are mind altering substances or the "I'm fitter than ever" delusion which I can't seem to get the hang of.  Carousel hmm, you could think of it as a circular thing but it's more like a downward spiral with people complaining about bad knees, backs, feet and other stuff I forget.

Forgetting isn't as fun as it sounds though.  You have a misfortune, suffer mental anguish for a while and move on.  If your memory is crap you get to rediscover your misfortune over and over.
