I really liked Spartacus: Blood and Sand and Gods of the Arena. Our neighbor got us into the show. (He even had a Spartacus-themed party last year, complete with a makeshift arena and wood swords--it was quite impressive.) Have only seen two episodes of the season with the new guy. They've been okay, but I agree with you, AD, that the new actor doesn't seem quite right for the role.
I quite enjoy the gratuitous soft-porn sex scenes, but sometimes the gore in the fighting scenes is a little much. Overall, though, the over-the-top comic-book feel of the show is pretty damn cool.
Unlike some I never rated Lucy Lawless as hot in Zena Warrior Princess but she has matured into a really sexy woman in Spartacus. Took me till the second season to realise who she was. |

I rented Cool Hand Luke on Bluray yesterday and watched it for probably the tenth time. It's definitely a top 10 movie for me, one of those that I resist watching until I can't stand it anymore. It is however a movie that I can talk about with friends ad nauseum...lol. The depth of the character development and the complexity of the storyline is something that I miss I suppose in a film industry that seems to have become overly dependant on CGI and big explosions or a truckload of violence to put butts in seats.
An overgeneralization of the current film industry I know, but sometimes it sure feels like it's true.

I've been looking for some ideas on new things to watch - so glad I found this thread. I'm going to check out some of the shows listed. I'm just finishing season three of "Doc Martin". I tend to watch stuff on my computer over tv and it's up on netflix. I'm really enjoying that one. I've also just started watching "Breaking Bad". The last movie I watched aside from The Avengers in the theater was the 2008 production of "Skin". I highly recommend it.

I cancelled my cable TV about a year ago because I just wasn't watching it anymore. Everything that I want to see I can find on the Web. Netflix has a bunch of terrific TV series available for streaming, and a lot of great old movies but not a lot of new movie content. I'm sure that has to do with the licensing cost, but no problem as I also do the 2 DVDs at a time option. I watched "The Hunter" with Willem Dafoe a couple of nights ago. The storyline was a bit underwhelming and a little treehuggy (not that that's a bad thing) and the ending was sad but it was worth a watch. Dafoe turned in his usual terrific performance and I really liked the little blond malnourished kid, she was a hoot! |

I was really peeved at netflix yesterday - I'd just finished season 2 of Doc Martin and they pulled everything but the first season. This is the second time availability changed on me while I was watching a series. Luckily for me, I have Amazon Prime and was able to start watching Doc Martin again there.
My queue is getting full with all these great ideas for stuff to watch!

I'm watching Thomas The Tank Engine. I don't like it, but it keeps monkey-boy quiet. Now if it were Ivor The Engine I'd quite enjoy it.
