Escape Arc 42
« on: May 23, 2018, 02:22:14 PM »
There's mention (I think) of screening for a religious virus in an Alastair Reynolds novel.
I'm not sure if was a literal or figurative virus.

Anyway, it's for you to say yay or nay.
Things aren't going too good on Earth so we're selling what we have, building an ark and moving to an undisclosed adequate planet.

Do you screen out the religious applicants?
Certainty disturbs me

A reverse rapture?

Hell yes!!!
If religions were TV channels atheism is turning the TV off.

Oh come on, we can inject them with a mutagen.
There could be positive attributes we can harvest from those that avoid their susceptibility.

This is a strange question. How do you screen for something like that?

This is a strange question.

Yes it is.

How do you screen for something like that?

With clever sciency sociometric testing.
Can't tell you the details, we don't want undesirables practising for the test.

It could be construed so.

I don't want any paedophiles bullies or woman haters, is it OK if I test for them?

Sure but again the question is how? How do you do so with pinpoint accuracy without creating harmful stereotypes or profiling that can be used to arbitrarily execute people at your will?

BPII didn't suggest executing anybody, just not taking them.

So there is no way to know for sure. There's no replicable way to do so. Reliably.

Alright sure. Semantics. It's implied humans will die if they stay on earth. What matters to me is the meaning behind it. In this case the screening is essentially being a Hitler or a Trump. But the one's being persecuted are the religious. Any religious. Only scientific rational minds seem to apply for salvation. The issue I see here is that mostly people of that nature are males. And then there are people who are in between, which would be called sympathizers in eras past. So I'm assuming they won't go either? So essentially there will be a group of mostly guys, being picked by a group of mostly guys. But only certain guys. Because these guys only like a certain type of guy. And if they don't like you, then you will get the pile of shit.

No it's not semantics. It's the Hitch-hikers Guide to the Galaxy. It's not the 'B' arc but arc 42.
