Diet chocolate can't be a substitute? I don't like it very much and I've heard the fructose in it is not as harmless as they claim.

Because it sends my blood sugar through the roof. One can, of course, eat just a small piece - but that's very difficult.

Giving up chocolate is an endless source of misery for diabetic old gits.
Diet chocolate can't be a substitute? Only if you don't want to dare fart again; ever! Well, being lactose intolerant myself, such flatulent disasters can be difficult to avoid really. For chocolate, I will dare.

Wouldn't that just be eating handfuls of cocoa? Technically but it has been processed to form a bar so the only ingredients it contains are cocoa solid and cocoa butter, it's really nice if you just let it melt in your mouth but it's revolting if you chew it. Its the best stuff if you are using it for cooking or making your own hot chocolate.

I make home made hot cocoa, because the box stuff is always terrible to me.

But I also tend to like bitter things (black coffee, stout beers, etc.)

I only like Granny smiths, fujis and Golden delicious. What a strange selection mixing Granny Smiths in with two desert apples. I love Fuji's!
