Garth Brooks: 'We Shall Be Free' --
When I heard this song and saw this video as a young child (the song came out in the early 90s, and I'd heard it by 3rd or 4th grade)... I was just electrified. I hadn't heard a song sung about human rights and freedoms before. Especially the lines "when we're free to love anyone we choose, when this world's big enough for all different views, when we're all free to worship from our own kind of pews... we shall we free". I just thought "oh, wow!"

Brooks wrote the song in reaction to the 1992 riots in LA. So I know the video is dated by about 20 years, and yes, it does reference religion... but I still LOVE it. Because most importantly, it refers to freedom, to tolerance and acceptance, to getting rid of prejudices and hatred. That spoke to me as a kid, and it still speaks to me now.

I tried to listen to some of the music you people like but found myself becoming demon possessed by all the Devil music.

I like just about anything Beegie Adair does.

My god that is beauitiful. Great music everyone.  A great thread Books!!

The only band that has remained with me since my Christian days:

The most moving instrumental I have heard.  Makes me think of my children growing up.  I actually put a video together for my son's Eagle ceremony to this piece.  I tear up every time i see it or hear the music really.

And then this is the greatest ever.  Somewhere in the 38 to 40 sec range you can see me (white shirt, ball cap) my son to my left (he is just slightly behind me to my left) and my daughter to his left (her head is barely peaking of the rail).

Blackbird is a beautiful song. A song I never get tired of is Holy Diver by Dio.
HAHAHAHAHA that reminds me of old times.  Getting drunk, watching platoon with my roomate, and pissing off the neighbors by screaming Dio songs at the top of my lungs.  Those were the days...
