A friend of mine has uploaded a powerpoint presentation to slide share ( http://www.slideshare.net/ ) and at the time of the upload didn't tick the box that allows for download of the file.  Since then, he had his computer crash and lost this powerpoint presentation.  So, it would be nice if we could rip it from the site.

Does anyone know how I could rip the powerpoint from slideshare?  I know it can be done with you tube videos.  He has already attempted to contact slide share more than once and they have been unresponsive.

If it can't be ripped, I'm going to have to use screen capture...and that loses quality.

Oh, and I need to do whatever I'm going to do by tomorrow afternoon so I can get thus stuff re-formatted for a weekend presentation.

Thanks.

You forgot to put a direct link to the presentation in question. Though, I don't know if I can help you. I can try.

Alright so, I've got nothing. :(
I spent a good half hour or so trying to figure out a way get it off the website with no luck. I did find out that even if I could save it off the website, it would have been a flash file, not the original PowerPoint file. Anyway, I took my laptop to class where I had a guy who knows more about web design(hardware is more my thing) took a look at it and said he probably couldn't save the file.
I don't want to say your SOL, but I'm out of ideas.

Edit: Scratch that, I think I'm onto something. *Vanishes*

Thank you so much for trying even if you are not successful.  I tried saving the page as an offline site with no success...at least no success with anything that I could use.

I tried a few things but I couldn't find a way to download it as ppt. How badly did the hard drive crash? Even if it can't boot the operating system, important files might still be recovered. Does it get past the BIOS screen?

I didn't get to look at it, but from what he said it crashed badly.  The local recovery specialists had to send it out to a clean lab to fix it.  The crash was apparently due to one of the moving parts breaking.  So, I think that means the stuff is there...it will just take a while for him to get back in possession of the data.

So, it seems that I will be stuck using screen shots.  Good thing I have my own copies of some of the projects in his portfolio..just not the older ones.

Backing up important files can reduce stress. Here is a free way to backup up to 2GB of files with very little effort.

I've been using it for a while and I like it.

I just have a bunch of hard drives and stuff.
I got the presentation to work, but it's an 11mb file and it will only run off of a PC. I couldn't get it put together on my mac for whatever reason. I just took a crash course in powerpoint.

Ok, here is the craziness. I have two files. They work separately from each other. So you don't need them both, but one might be easier for you to use over the other. Just giving you options.

One is called PresentationCD.rar. It's 11mb and was designed to go onto a CD(so it had all the presentation files). I did this because ppt file alone wont work, it needs all the slides. If you download this file, just unzip it and run the play.bat file and it will launch the presentation.

the second file is called download.rar and is about 6mb. When i ripped the presentation from the website I had to save each slide, and then import it into powerpoint(pain in the ass). The problems is that, if you want to presentation to work, the slide files need to be located in C:\Downloads (you can change this if you want too, just right click each slide and go to the properties and find the path and change it). Otherwise the presentation wont be able to find them. this one is a good option if you want to play with the transitions between slides because you can still edit it a little bit. However, you can't really edit the txt or images on the individual slides.

To download these files go to http://www.box.net and Login with the email Brooks.kev@gmail.com password: teapot
It's a random password I choose, and I will just change it in a few days. I tried Mozy, but leave it to someone to make it impossible to cross platform between mac and pc over something this simple.

Hopefully one of these will be a better option over screen capturing the website lol.

What an adventure *whew*
