The History Channel is showing "How Life Began".It's theories on how life on earth started. God is brought into the mix,but the show is rather insteresting.http://www.history.com/shows.do?action=detail&episodeId=303042 .
QuoteWas life triggered by some event, like lightning hitting a pond full of amino acids? Earth was teeming with life billions of years before the dinosaurs existed. Single-celled organisms inundated the oceans, and the soil swarmed with living creatures. Where did it all come from and how do you go from a single-celled organism to a trillion-celled organism like Man? Cutting-edge science is testing out answers about life's origins and how life can be created on new worlds--or even our own.

Also NGC Naked Science showed "Birth of Life"  http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/series/naked-science/3151/Overview .
QuoteHow did life begin? its one of the most fundamental and difficult questions that has challenged us for ages. Our planet is teaming with life, from the highest mountain to the deepest ocean; life is everywhere. But what was the firing pistol that started the evolutionary race? How did material go from non-living to alive?

Birth of the Earth (NGC Naked Science)
QuoteAn imaginary "human" time traveler takes us on a journey back to the moment our solar system was born 4.5 billion years ago and examines the natural forces that created Earth and the conditions necessary for life to evolve.

So what's their guess? I'm curious about how close to my understanding they are.

As far as I'm concerned, there's enough data to propose that the Miller-Urey experiment was a reasonable approximation for the development of organic monomers on ancient Earth.
I want bad people to look forward to and celebrate the day I die, because if they don't, I'm not living up to my potential.

I will say a comet hitting earth, leaving behind proteins, with the right temperature,UV rays and a bit of H2O would be my favortive. We would all be aliens. There are others of course.Pretty much everything was how it was possible for proteins to mix in certain locations.I'm adding a link to the documentary Birth of Life.  http://documentary-log.com/?id=2

There is a whole field of study deticated to finding the origin of life.

Sweet! I'll have to check that one out sometime. NOVA had a show about evolution, or abiogenesis, or something of the likes. It was pretty deep. Good stuff, though. I do love anything that speaks to my nerdy side.  :nerd:
Hate to tell you, but.....

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

Isn't science really just curious about the details? I think the general question is already answered: nucleic acids naturally form long chains, and fatty acids naturally form shells around them.

You are correct.  :hail:

The more biochemistry I took in college, the more reasonable life happening by "accident" seemed.
