This may not be the right place really, but it is not, in my mind, suitale for the lighter side. And it has a lot to do with religion and religious politics.

Msybe it's been shown before, but...

Mr. B

A history teacher in high school told us one year that all conflicts are ultimately based upon land and resources. Religion, politics or nationalism are just proxies to convince their people that they deserve someone else's land or resources. Germay's Lebensraum or America's Manifest Destiny come to mind. Then, naturally, there is the 2000+ year old squabble over the Promised land.

Great song and video.

That is probably right, Mr B. Personal power seeking also played a part I think - having power over territory, even if it is near desert, and people gives some their kicks. Second etc. sons of lords had little chance at of power or property at home so, yes, using religion to justify grabbing some elsewhere was a good scheme. The kings were also in favour of having sovereignty over more territory for their own income.

Just remembered the opening scenes of 2001: a Space Odyssey. Problem probably goes back to fights between neighbouring family groups of hominids over hunting/gathering territory. But most social animals show the trait. We just do in a larger scale.

In eastern martial arts, each fighting style was developed to best the previous. That is until tai chi, aka "the ultimate fist".

Yes I would like to know the history of the martial arts and which one was developed to beat which. All I know is that Tai Chi was supposed to be the best. The style even has moves for disarming a gun I think? If not that then it is some weapon that you can disarm a person of.

Tai Chi is a beautiful art form and can be a martial arts method. It may or may not be the best or deadliest of the many other forms. You would get some spirited arguments from any of the practitioners of other martial arts forms......Kung Fu, Tai Kwan Do, Karate, Judo, Bushido,  Jiu jitsu, Savat, Aikido, and a bunch of other practices with funny names.
