PsychoBane

Hello, I'm PsychoBane, serial lurker. I have been pretty much an atheist for a few years, after having been at least somewhat Christian for most of my life. For the most part, I am bad at speaking about whatever I am thinking, whether positive or negative, (if I am even thinking) and always have been. I am here because I have this idea that I could beat that "10 posts" limit.

My interests are spread out across cartoons, video games, music, and psychology/neuroscience. I also read stuff, but who doesn't???

Thanks for reading.

So, which cartoons do you watch? What kind of video games do you like playing? What genres of music do you like listening to? I'm also interested in neuroscience and psychobiology, which areas do you find most interesting? :) Are you currently reading any books?

Hello and welcome to HAF, PsychoBane. I wouldn't worry about that 10 post thing.  ;)

Looking forward to reading your contributions, especially in the areas of your particular interest. Are psychology and neuroscience fields of professional interest for you?

Regarding cartoons, I watch most of the stuff on Cartoon Network, such as Steven Universe and We Bare Bears (and Adult Swim, whenever I either am conscious or am not playing something else for background noise), and am trying some show called Triptankon Comedy Central, whenever I catch it. Regarding video games, I like role-playing games or stuff with a story that interests me. Recently I finished Saints Row 4, having only gotten into the game in the first place because it had science fiction elements and was funny.

My music tastes vary: I like the epic/film score stuff, hard rock and alternative rock, power and folk metal, R&B, and old-school rap. Books I am currently reading include Good Omens and Year Zero, a science fiction book that I recently got from a mystery bookstore.

Regarding psychology/neuroscience, I am primarily interested in emotion, stress, and motivation and their effects on the body. What are your interests in these fields?

Yes--I am currently applying to a few doctoral programs in experimental and health psychology. The researchers with whom I am interested in working all use either physiological or neuroscientific methods to study their topics.

Does graduate school count?  :D
I watched a couple of episodes of the Walking Dead one time last year; it did not entice me at the time. I'm told that I need to start from the beginning, but I usually don't need to do that to find a show interesting (e.g., Doctor Who). I have heard that the comics were good--would you recommend those?

Cool topics! Do you work with oxidative stress as well? I've read (somewhere) that psychological stress can generate more oxidative stress in the brain.

I'm currently an very poorly paid "intern" at a neuroscience lab which specialises primarily in memory and learning/acquisition of memory. Though many neuroscientists don't like the new field of neuroeconomics, I'm curious about those kind of decision making mechanisms.

I have no idea if graduate school counts. I'm English and 55

I didn't know that TWD was originally a graphic novel until recently. I binge watched the first 4 series of TWD just before the 5 series aired. The characters do develop over time so it would be a series that would benefit from watching from the start. Where did you first start with Dr Who? My first was William Hartnell the very first Dr. I even remember the first episode where the Daleks appeared.

Welcome aboard PsychoBane, fellow psychology/neuro person!  I ended up a health psych grad myself and now work in the area of human performance, mostly cognitive stuff - attention, short term memory, resiliency, etc.

Glad to have you jump from lurker to poster!

PsychoBane

Yay for more psych/neuro people! And so many interesting topics.

No, I've never done anything regarding oxidative stress. I have only gotten to research at the level of body systems so far, and I suspect that I will stay there.

That's pretty epic getting to watch the First Doctor! I've heard that the Daleks looked a tad different from those in New Who because of either budgeting or production values, if I recall correctly. My first Doctor ended up being David Tennant, although I would love to see some of Hartnell (gotta see the original!) and also Tom Baker's doctors one day, if possible.
