Pollution With Antibiotics Leads to Resistant Bacteria, Scientists Find (http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2011/02/110221120642.htm)

QuoteScienceDaily (Feb. 21, 2011) â€" Many of the substances in our most common medicines are manufactured in India. Some of these factories release huge quantities of drugs to the environment. Swedish scientists now show that bacteria in polluted rivers become resistant to a range of antibiotics. International experts fear that this may contribute to the development of untreatable infectious diseases worldwide...

Oh fucking joy!

Little things like this remind me why mother nature's remedies are still superior to modern medicine.

Great, if this is so, I can't say I'm surprised.

And if that's not just effing marvelous, just think about the amount of antibiotics that are being poured into livestock in modern agricultural practices on a daily basis.  I think the Obama administration has been pursuing this problem in the states, don't know how good they are doing with it considering the lobbying powers here...but I hope they make progress as the future potential for a hamburger laden with antibiotic resistant E coli O157 is not going to make anyone's dinner experience a happy one.

This is why vaccines are so awesome.  You prime the immune system to fight by giving it a heads up, rather than poison the system with something toxic that will most likely be rendered ineffective in 50 to 100 years by natural selection.
