Title: Faith in Santa
Post by: Sophus on December 08, 2010, 02:13:22 AM
Is it just me or do a number of these family Christmas films resemble J.M Barrie's work? They seem to be putting general emphasis on believing "in what you can't see" by having protagonists who learn to have faith in the fat man after going through some doubt during most of the movie. "Oh boy, Santa is real after all! Shame on all the other kids who tell me otherwise."

So in spite of all the holiday commercialism Christians have found a religious use for Santa after all?

You make an interesting point. I've never really thought of it that way.

Ah, good ole' St. Nick...

... always saving children from being baked into meat pies:

QuoteAnother legend tells how a terrible famine struck the island and a malicious butcher lured three little children into his house, where he slaughtered and butchered them, placing their remains in a barrel to cure, planning to sell them off as ham. Saint Nicholas, visiting the region to care for the hungry, not only saw through the butcher's horrific crime but also resurrected the three boys from the barrel by his prayers.

lol When can we expect the Christmas special Santa vs. Sweeney (Todd) to be released?

I'm not really sure how many films do this but it seems to be the more recent ones at least. I'm thinking of flicks like The Polar Express or Elf.
