Title: Archiving Scientific Evidence
Post by: Arturo on February 01, 2017, 08:17:11 AM
So I took the liberty of saving the NASA web page of evidence for global warming on the wayback machine. So I thought this thread could be about Archiving all the scientifically evident truths before President Fuck gets to them.

Good idea, Apathy! I know that the Internet Archive is doing at least some of this work themselves, but it couldn't hurt to help them. Well done.

I keep getting reminded lately of the Foundation Series by Isaac Asimov, this thread is another reminder.

Remember Hari Seldon and his group of mathematicians who develop "Psychohistory" which is a rigorous science of society itself?

So they apply this science to the all-powerful Galactic Empire in which they live and discover that the Empire is in terminal decline, and it's fall will usher in a 30,000 year era of barbarism as the result of complete social and technological collapse. However, they also discover that a carefully designed plan to save and archive the advancements of science can change or alter the collapse. Not by actually saving the empire or preventing the collapse, but limit the length of the coming dark age to a mere millennium.

Of course we don't have a planet at the far end of the galaxy to escape and hide at like they did in the book, a place where they could preserve our collective knowledge in the hope of starting over again.

Put in those terms crossing the border and moving to Canada to escape Trump just doesn't seem far enough.

It's really hard to immigrate to Canada. I'll put the link, but it basically boils down to having already having a job there to support yourself before you are a citizen. And if my Dad is anything to go off of when he tried to get a job there a couple years ago, they won't hire foreigners.
