The orangutan-in-chief has been president for a week now and has already demonstrated that he's fully committed to being the single worst chief executive in history. Not a small accomplishment given we had eight years of GW Bush previously. Bush set the bar so low that I honestly didn't think there could be a worse president - at least not in my lifetime - but, oh, how wrong I was. In just one week, the orange disaster has signed orders that will permit the rape of the environment to begin by approving construction of the Keystone Excel and Dakota Access pipelines. A move that will pollute the land and water of millions of people as well as infringe on the territorial rights of the Standing Rock Sioux Indians.

He signed a federal hiring freeze that will specifically impact the VA as the VA will now not be permitted to hire personnel (doctors, nurses, staff) to care for wounded veterans which were a group of people he previously had pledged to protect.

He has, as is well known, already begun the process of repealing the ACA which will leave tens of millions of people without health insurance while having no viable alternative ready to replace it. This will also likely drive up the rates on the rest of us when the insurance industry raises its premiums to offset the loss of all those millions of premiums people on the ACA have been paying. They gotta make up that shortfall somehow and it's gonna be by raping the rest us.

He signed several gag orders to quiet those whose views don't align with his own and restrict the flow of information to keep people ignorant of any circumstances that might jeopardize corporate profits. There's the global gag on abortion where he's disallowing federal money to be applied to all abortion clinics to perform abortions or even to provide women with information. There's the EPA gag which silences that agency from speaking freely on any environmental issues pending approval from the office of the president. Which means, for example, whatever damage is caused by the Keystone or Dakota Access pipelines now cannot be reported to the public without White House approval. How convenient.

The same order places a gag on the findings of all science agencies so whatever information science might have on issues like climate change or any new information they discover must be submitted to the Trump regime for approval before it can be shared publicly. Basically, any information that might enlighten the public on issues that could impact the unfettered pursuit of corporate profit or do not service the Trump regime as they see fit is squelched. So congratulations to the Republican party for introducing fascism into America. But, hey, it's better than democratic socialism, right?

Of course, there's always the ongoing stupidity about his idiotic wall which we are going to pay for, not Mexico, as well as his ongoing monetization of the presidency to enrich himself personally. A move that is not only corrupt but unconstitutional.

And there's so much more to come. One of the more hateful proposals under consideration is their desire to disembowel the Endangered Species Act. Got that? They want to tear it apart so they won't have to be hamstrung in their economic greed by not being allowed to obliterate some species standing in their way with its pesky right to live.

ALL this damage in just ONE WEEK. We'll be a smoldering ruin by the end of his term.

UGH!!

Bush has at least one thing going for him in the wretched president sweepstakes; an appallingly expensive war (in both Iraqi, American and other nationalities' lives, not to mention the huge pile of money) that his crew of dastards lied the country into.

With Trump blustering like a third-rate pirate about how "maybe we'll have another chance" to abscond with "the oil," and four years to demonstrate what a clueless horrible goon he is, I think there's a very good chance he'll leave Bush II in the dust when it comes to going down in history as one of the worst the country has ever had to endure. I'm sorry to say that the rest of the world will be very lucky if they escape unscathed.

It's as bad as we thought. Has it really only been a week??
All we can hope for is that the majority rises up and takes back this country in two years during Congressional elections, and two years after that. Otherwise they'll probably be so demoralized that they won't even bother voting. Can someone in Congress at least introduce a Constitutional Amendment to get rid of the electoral college? Even if it wouldn't pass now, it's a way to rally the troops.

And he's just getting warmed up. There is so much worse yet to come and no way to stop it unless the good lord above takes pity on us and fells Drunpf and Pence and probably Ryan with a trio of perfectly timed massive heart attacks.

Yes, that's it. The good lord above will save...

Oh, wait...

Disregard. We're f**ked.

Why spend more on the military, I mean if you're going to be isolationist and nobody on the planet is a threat, why?
Oh it must be that SPACE ALIEN THREAT dossier the new president gets to read, or has read to him more probably.
Take my advice, don't listen to me.

Bush better than Trump?

Here is a news article from 2008 (source: http://www.livescience.com/9574-scientists-bush-stifles-science-lets-global-leadership-slip.html)
about the Bush administration and their science "support".

Quote"Science has been seriously undermined by the censorship and alteration of testimony and news releases," said Kevin Trenberth, a climate scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research. "Science and facts are not a factor in decisions, and ideology dominates."

(A Democratic congressional report in December stated: "The Bush administration has engaged in a systematic effort to manipulate climate change science and mislead policymakers and the public about the dangers of global warming.")

Great!  To make you feel even better, Trump also hasn't started a war [yet].

This could go in the Il Duce thread, but it's specific to Trump's first week, and therefore more topical here. A terrific list of Trump's most prominent lies for the week. It's one of the best lists. Everybody says that it's great.

I notice that much of the media and many of Tfump's poltical opponents are using quite strong language and indirect accusations against him.

I will admit that I have not taken this detailed an interest in previous US elections, though close to it on Obama's inauguration, but I cannot seem to remember quite this strength of negative feeling so obviously displayed so eafly in the first term.

Though, with the unique (so far as presidents go) qualitiesTrump brings to the job I should not feel quite so surprised!

Wonder if anyone has done an egotism/egoism : objective content analysis on Trumps official speeches? From those attached to the news media seems to have been 95% "Look at me, folks, look at me! Aren't I just terrific? My ideas are the tops, right up there!" Wonder if there has been a speech that has been pure policy?

The president is the embodiment of the nation, a unique individual against whom the nation will be judged by other nations. He takes the decisions and, if he is a good one, carries the can. "I", "me" and "my"  are bound to figure prominently in his speeches on policy, they imply ownership of the decisions. But only if addressed to "authority",  "responsibility" and things like "administration" , not self-regarding personal qualities and ambitions.
