Title: blocking a specific avatar...
Post by: Amicale on February 29, 2012, 03:32:55 PM
Is there a way to specifically block one person's avatar so I don't see it? I'm not offended by it, I like it, and I don't really want someone to change their avatar on my account. It's just that it's a rapidly moving image (lightning repeatedly flashing) and it seems to set off headaches even if I'm reading a post from this person for a few moments. Which is bizarre, but anyhow. Just wondering. If I can't turn the one off so I can't see it, I'll just deal with it. :)

i don't think you can....but it would be fine to ask the person to change it; they could just resave the gif to have a slower frame rate.

add block, you can choose to not see stuff.
Tank's animated sig distracted me.
You see a thing once, why see it again?
Unless you want to.

No big deal at all man!  Now that you mention it I can see how that would be annoying.

Wow, thank you! I appreciate that! I honestly didn't want to single you out or anything but I guess you figured it out.  :D I like your new choice a lot, too!

And thank you again.  They are quite simply the ene-all-be-all of human existence to me.  More precious than oxygen as far as I am concerned.

Yep, I understand. My little girl's that to me, too. :) It's funny, before you have kids, you think you know yourself pretty well... but when they're born, this ferocious love just grabs hold of you, and you'd literally do anything to protect them, keep them safe, and happy. Woe to anyone who tries anything messed up with my child -- like you said, she's more precious to me than oxygen, and that includes their oxygen.  ;D

All (sort of) kidding aside... Kids really are precious. You just feel like you want to protect them with everything you've got in you. Gosh... mine's only almost 4. I can't even imagine what it'll be like when she's a teenager. Ack!  :D

You don't mean to say that, if it were in your power, you would not orchestrate an ultimatum for this most precious element of your life for whom as you say would "...  literally do anything to protect them, keep them safe, and happy" where it would be possible for them to spend eternity in perpetual, unimaginable torment?  Surely you jest.  Because laying out an ultimatum like that for someone you love and care about makes all the sense in the world.

That's a feeling I can understand completely. Father of four, here.  :)

And they make a great avatar!

Sorry, something got lost in the ether and I think it was my understanding.  :D

What did you mean by this, exactly? Maybe the double negatives tripped me up. Very, very small things are tripping me up today. Probably a good thing my kiddo's with her daddy a couple days.  :P

I was being sarcastic in the highest order.  You had just expressed your deep seated love for your precious children.  I find it nonsenscal, perplexing, repugnant and abhorrent that any otherwise rational, lucid person could possibly believe in a teaching that proffers an ultimatum like the one the Bible lays out; choose Jesus or walk right into a tormented enternity.  I have this thought gonig on several other threads. I just cannot seem to shake it from my mind.

Ah, yes. Gotcha. I apologize, I can usually pick sarcasm up just fine. Stuff going on seems to have taken my mind on a bit of a trip, though.

Anyhow, yes, I completely agree with you. I'd never, EVER teach my daughter that sort of ultimatum, I can't even fathom it. "Honey, mommy loves you SO much that you HAVE to know that if you don't choose Jesus, you're going to burn in hell forever!" -- UGH. As a parent, even the very thought of scaring my child with stuff like that sickens me. As does me even thinking of telling her that she's an evil little sinner who's somehow offended God. Bullshit, is what that is. Nobody should have to hear that stuff. We're humans who mess up, we do our best to redeem ourselves, we keep going. Overall, I think all of us are mostly decent folks, and most of us want to do well by our kids. We're not depraved beings bound for torment if we refuse to bow down to someone who quite frankly I'd never worship in a million years, and I refuse to ever perpetuate this bizarre myth to my child. Anyone who does tell her that is going to get an earful.

People sometimes say religion never did any harm.
If they say this honestly they are no doubt using that greatest of godly gifts, self deception.
There have been people here that have been rejected by their parents because the don't believe.

Photogenic enough for a nice avatar too. Not as photogenic as Asmo the Grumpy Lump, mind you, but still...  ;D

Truthseeker, your tagline 'beware of the bright and shiny things' somehow reminds me of a magpie.  :D

I found it to be quite apt, actually.

It *is* nonsensical and puzzling (and a little abhorrent and offensive to my delicate sensibilities) that the Bible compells presumably otherwise sane and rational people to go around spamming people with their beliefs.   >:(

;D (I speak Spam like one born to it, don't I?) ;D

Nah, I was able to get the gist of it.
