Title: Me / my show
Post by: cgmccall on April 03, 2012, 09:18:29 PM
Hello everyone.
I am a quite happy atheist, and want the world to know about it. That, and a bunch of other thoughts I have. To that end, I've made a little animated show on YouTube: Puppet Opinions.
There are three episodes so far. Here's a link to the first:
link removed, violation of rules
I'm thinking of going the extra mile, putting in the extra effort, and getting an episode funded on Kickstarter.com soon. So it would be great to get more people to watch, crank up the numbers, and make it a viable project!
Peace.

Hi Colin

I see you didn't bother to read the rules, or worse ignored them. When you've got your 10 apprentice posts under your belt we'd be happy to see what you've done  ;D

Welcome to HAF. (https://www.happyatheistforum.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg32.imageshack.us%2Fimg32%2F2922%2Fcheersi.gif&hash=d22c932723fd55512134b1ae98b018246ccbb424)

I would like to hear about your time at USC studying humour! That sounds ike a good course.

I'm confused. ???
The rules say I can only post in the "getting to know you" section. I did.
It says nothing about the content I can post there.
Haven't people already pointed people to their blogs where they introduce themselves?

As for studying humor at USC, we dissected a lot of clowns.

Nope, not usually. We generally frown on posting links on your first couple of posts because a lot of people tend to "post and run".

Atually,
Quote from: RulesNO SPAM: If this is your first visit to the forum and you post a link, copy paste text, etc it will be considered spam and may be removed or partially removed by a moderator at their own discretion without notice. Spam is everything from unwanted advertisements to posting the same thread or comment on many different forums. If you would like to bring attention to a project of yours (youtube channel, ask for people to take a survey, want feedback on your blog, etc.) just send one of the moderators a heads up private message first so we don't think you're just here to self-promote but are interested in being a contributing member.

The "first visit" bit is quite poorly worded as it refers to the first post you make and not the first time you read the forum, but it does say what it says quite clearly from there on.

True that.
I kinda skipped the spam section seeing as I don't have any Viagra to sell.
Anywho, I still don't believe in God and I have an optimistic outlook on life, so I won't be running anywhere.

Terry Pratchett would appreciate that. The Fools Guild (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guilds_of_Ankh-Morpork#Fools.27_Guild)

QuoteAs Terry Pratchett notes in The Art of Discworld, humour, as a profession, is hard, and nowhere is it harder than in the Fools' Guild. Its founder, Jean-Paul Pune (on the Disc, the inventor of the play on words that bears his name) understood that the heart of all comedy is pain, specifically others' pain. In recognition of this, Pune demanded a regimen of cold baths, wooden beds, bad food and self-flagellation to strengthen his pupils for the harshness of Foolery. Recent health and safety guidelines have ensured that more students survive to graduation, but school life remains as grim as the Guild's facade. Creativity and wit were the death of funniness, as far as Pune was concerned; progress through the Guild ranks was (and is) achieved through hours of rote memorization of the seventy-three approved subclasses of pun, the listed pratfalls and the accepted jokes, which must go through a twenty-year approval process before they are passed by the Council of Fun.

I have to agree that the way it is worded isn't as clear as it could be. On the other hand, I doubt rewording it would really reduce links in first posts. Most who do it seem to have the intention of spamming.

As to OP, welcome. I was waiting to see if you were going to be a one post wonder before responding to this thread.

Do I have to give my speech about how I had to post 50 posts when I first started? I'll do it! I swear! I still have a couple days before my HAF-aversary when I promised I'd give it up.

Once upon a time, in the primordial past (Spring 2011)
Long before HAF spoons and the wonders Sweet Death's multi-coloured pony hair.
There was a troubled time.
N00bs were required to contribute not 10 posts. Not 20 posts. Not 30 posts. But 50 posts before they were released from the "getting to know you" section of the Happy Atheist Forum.

Some looked into the abyss of post requirements and went insane.
Some fled.
Many a new user was lost.

But those, with the courage, fortitude and sheer strength of will grappled the Beast with 50 heads and conquered him. Through bloodshed, horror and elaborate responses to "what's on your mind today", some of us persevered. Glory and honour shone on those 50 post N00bs!

And then HAF management decided it was a bit much and changed the requirement to 10 posts.
So suck it up.  :P

Ahaha, you are amazing DJ !

Back when I joined in May 2011, I gritted my teeth and did my 50 posts in about 6 days. I was confined to The Laid Back Lounge, mind you. Ah, good times. Was so worth it. <3

I went down memory lane (read: went to my profile to see all of my posts) and noticed something interesting. I started posting in closing days of December 2010, and then there was no post count requirement... :o At least it doesn't look that way, as I was constantly posting in areas that are now restricted until the required post number. I also seem to have a vague memory of a 25 post requirement at some point, but I may be mistaken....

Oh, fear not the Life of Brain reference. I myself am a Brit.
Also an American though, so it's hard to be cheeky.

I consider myself to be among the oldest here, there was no post count mininum when I registered, but I watched as noobs struggled to reach their 50th in the 'Getting to know you' section before they were granted access to the other, more exclusive parts of the forum. ;D

I feel like watching the Life of Brian again... or better yet, the interviews they (Monty Python group) had to put themselves through after the film was released.

I finally did it.  I looked up cheeky.  So I guess I am a cheeky American.  I refuse to call myself saucy or pert, so I must be cheeky.

This made me laugh.  A lot.  The picture of you in your avatar, paired with the adjectives "saucy" or "pert."  Oh Asmo.  *Laughing*

Pert(h), it is in Oz. Yes, yes it is. So you can not be a pert unless you are in Oz, no?

Ye but it was named for a Perth in Scotland.  Proper Oz names should be wangier, places like:  Budawang, Burnewang, Burrawang, Gnowangerup, Gowangardie, Innawanga, Jerrawangala, Tantawangalo, Wallerawang, Wang Wauk, Wangaratta, Wangary, Wangi Wangi (which means place of many wangis), or Wangoom.

Which leads to the most obvious question: what in the hell is a wangi?

S'okay. I don't blame you. It's your Country's love for silly names.

Neither would I. A character trait is the last thing that comes to mind when that word is used.  ;)
