I was suffering problems with my tablet earlier, every time that I used my stylus to type "m" the screen dimmed momentarily and the keyboard disappeared. "Oh, oh," thought I, "is this a mischievous virus or something?"

But no, it was entirely due to me trying to be clever - not always a good thing. To "park" the stylus when carrying the tablet around i placed a small, flat magnet under the cover of the spine of the tablet case. Then I put another, cylindrical one in the tube of the stylus so it "sticks" to the case..

Last night I changed to a new stylus and inserted the magnet into its tube. But did not bother putting in the rolled up bit of paper to keep it up near the clip. Close to the position of the letter "m" on the keyboard is the magnet sensor that switches the tablet to sleep mode when the case is closed . . .

Funny!

Reminds me of a story I heard about a company data center. This was back when they ran those huge reel-to-reel tape machines for data storage. Seems every afternoon, all of the machines would stop and unload their tapes. Really had the programmers baffled. Until they actually visited the machines in the afternoon to watch first-hand. As they were trying to diagnose the problem, the sun was setting. The light came through the window, hit the optical tape sensors, and all the machines stopped and unloaded. So, the solution to the problem was to install blinds!

Yeah, way back in those days a faulty chip or other semiconductor caused our brand new PDP11 to throw a series of wobblies every day just after lunch. An astute engineer time plotted the wobblies and noticed that they synced with the sun - starting a little later each day. Bands of light passed through ventilation slots and over the faulty component

They had fun convincing the supplier of the fault because the weather changed. Then someone used a powerful UV lamp to simulate the sun, whilst their technician was present, and - glitch!

We just have naughty minds, that's why we interpreted it that way.
