Vets are taught nutrition by Hills, the place who sells the food, so they really don't have a clue honestly.

For cystitis foods, how much are you willing to spend?  Natural Balance is a very good middle of the road CORN FREE food, I've used it for years and like the way my cats are on it.   Wysong, Blue, Avoderm, Felidae, Innova, Wellness are all good but pricey.  Watch the % of ash in the food, you want it as low as possible.

Also look into raw for the best results, I'd love to keep mine on it but with 7 here right now, well it's not feasible.  I had a diabetic cat on it for 2 years, after 6 months he didn't need insulin, gained back all his weight and was acting like a kitten again.

Natura's Evo Turkey & Chicken has been a great boon for all my cats - the relevant cat being a now-deceased elderly male with similar urinary tract problems quite a few years ago. It really seemed to help him - high nutrition, no grains, little to no other crap.

I gotta say this is one of the most random reasons to join an Atheist forum that I can think of. Not that your advice is bad or I don't want you to return. Just curious as how you found this forum through the cat help route you user name, link and advise seem to indicate? Please do return though, it takes all kinds and I think an animal lover will fit in just as well as anyone else.

(my spelling, grammer, and punctuation suck, I know, but regardless of how much I read they haven't improved much since grade school. It's actually a bit of a family joke.

Kentwood Cat Clinic is within spitting distance of my apartment.  I hear they are great place for cat care though pricey compared to non-specialist vets.
