Hello forum

I decided to connect on this forum, inspired by the possibility that some atheists value happiness and humanism.

Cheers

Greeting AH (if I may), well, I am the token self-declared humanist in the bunch and I am, usually, fairly happy. :D

Tell us something of yourself please.

PS: I am prone to tupis typos so please bear with me.

Shorthand AH is fine!

I live in Sydney, Australia.

I may be a 'man of many talents' (ask for a personal weblink) but humbly enough, I would say I'm a very ordinary human, like anyone else.

It is an ongoing challenge for me to be self-disciplined and practise virtues of human dignity based on my very own personal definitions, with some caveats, some hurdles and some successes to date - the foremost part of my human dignity which in turn constitutes my self-esteem is

1. Integrity,
2. Others being kindness,
3. Intellectual rigour,
4. Cooperation and equity whilst living in the highly capitalistic, competitive Western world,
5. Resilience, cool-headedness and mercy in the face of antagonisms, adversities and emotional anguish,
6. Resourcefulness, timeliness and organisation,
7. Dedication and industry,
8. Empathy, sociocultural sensitivity and active secular interests, and
9. Excellence (no elitism) in personality, physique/health/fitness, academia/intellectual, scientific and philosophical endeavours, professions, creativity/cultures, adventures, socialisation and relationships/friendships (familial, sexual, etc.)

Will write more from time to time.

Not a bad list, AH, I am also a "Jack-of-all-trades" but perhaps a tad more relaxed! I go for The Golden Rule as my day by day guide and apologuse for, or forgive myself, small human lapses that do no lasting damage.

Perhaps the car window sticker I made sums it up:

Welcome to the forum, Azurehuman, I am impressed with your list, you sound a little bit like a perfectionist, but I'm not judging! I have nothing against the quest for perfection.
My list is a bit shorter: I try to be nice. That's pretty much everything in a nutshell. It doesn't always work out, but I move on  ;)
And I must say, for the most part, this is indeed a happy place, so I hope you will feel comfortable and welcome here!

Dave, I love your sticker - I gotta 'steal' it, defying integrity... ;)

Dragonia, calling me a perfectionist which I hate to be whilst being practical and realistic - I shall take that as a compliment.

No one, I love your question! I think, I'd be the middle blue man since he's the most distant from the camera, flanked by two men on either side - this means that he's jurisprudent, extra cautious and more as a leader.

Everyone else, thanks for welcomes!

If you can't get a decent image of it give me an email and I'll send the file.

Hello and Welcome to our Forum,

Speaking of human dignity this quote from Eraldo Banovac echoes my own on the matter.

"It can be accepted that there is a price for man's work, time spent or service done, but never for human dignity."

Hope to see you around some of the other threads soon.

Thank goodness for asking.

Yes, I support same sex marriage and I am gay! I feel that astute politicians are backfiring it! :'(

Not really. Chose the avatar because I like the sculptural looks.

Welcome AH.  DO hang around long enough to get to know us a bit more.  We have one or two other Aussie members  who are held in esteem.

Join in the commentary. You can readily see that we are not a narrow minded or narrowly focused group. Just look at all the thread categories. You might also have noticed that there are some brilliant writers here along with some clods like me.

We are all in this together. Sexual orientation is a non subject here. We do not care what your social preferences happen to be, what we care about is intelligent conversation and courtesy toward one another. Not to say that we cannot disagree. Oh Yeah, we do at times. In any case you will find this to be one of the most civilized forums that anyone could hope for.

I'd love to. What do you mean sexual orientation is a non subject? Is it something no one cares and would avoid discussing?
