Title: Um...
Post by: Nam on February 19, 2016, 07:24:51 AM
I made one of these in 2012...I just read it. I forgot my password here so ended up having to change it just to get in. So, based on my last "Introduction (http://www.happyatheistforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=10180.0)", I went back to wwgha who then banned me for life last December, early-mid, don't remember. I was a bad boy.

I then went to IGI but I don't really feel comfortable there, and went to atheist think tank where I became a Global Moderator but it's practically dead there. Trying to figure out how to raise it from the dead but until then...I need to argue. Arguing with myself gets me no where -- I simultaneously win and lose -- no fun in that.

So...maybe some here will like to argue with me from time to time.

Oh I'm sure that there are quite a few who will love a good old argument here. Just keep it civil.

I'm semi-retired from argument these days, but let me know if you'd like some snark.

What if everyone here agrees with you? What're you gonna do then?

Welcome, I s'pose.

No one ever does. As the head administrator banned me for life he called me a "decent man". If I'm so " decent", why did he ban me. Because I told him to fuck off?

Just pretend you like dogs and minorities, Nam, and you'll be fine. And don't even think about defending enforced population control!

So far, you've told us you're a bad boy, and any ban is definitely worth boasting (I've taken a ban from a Satanist forum myself before), but can we see some banworthy posts? Maybe tell us your opinions on, say, ...er... smelly fat women.

Well, I got many "banworthy" posts at wwgha. I was banned for none of them. See, they have the hypocritical view of: say anything you want to members but say anything you want to staff -- that's going too far.

If you're looking at how "direct" or "harsh" I can be one time there was a whiner there (who is now back more regularly now that I am gone) who whined a lot. One day she said she felt like committing suicide and I told her to stop whining about it and get it over with so we didn't have to read her whining all the time.

I got a lot of smites for that. See, she's the type of person who says something that makes sense or doesn't and then expects everyone to agree with her about it and if they don't then they are "big meanies". I called her out constantly on it. I ended up having to put her on ignore so I wouldn't say something I would regret. Think about that for a moment.

We had a guy on here once who continually told us about how badass he was and never really backed it up with any posts of substance that weren't about himself. We just started ignoring him in the end and he went away... or maybe he quit his narcissism and ended up being a respected poster... can't remember which....
Title: Re: Um...
Post by: Nam on February 20, 2016, 06:00:29 PM
Not him. I'm banned for life from the website. I can't view my posts collectively. I'd have to go through topic to topic and find significant posts out of over 17,000 of them. I ain't doing that. You want to do that, you do it. Best I can do is this:

At wwgha:

The first name is a nondenom Christian who believes only he's a Christian. Still on the website though he breaks more rules collectively than I ever have.

Second name was a Christian who was banned earlier last year or the year before. No one really knows why since the guy with over 600 smites is still there.

The third guy is a JW.

The fourth guy is a Christian who comes and goes. Posts arguments but doesn't really reply back unless to say we're wrong.

I'm the only atheist on the list, and the only one with over 100 negatives on the entire website.

Best I can do for you there.

Where I'm currently a GM (the dead website): (I think you may have to join to read this, if so this isn't me "recruiting", you're the one that wants evidence)

This place doesn't do "smites," but red text used by a moderator would be the equivalent, I suppose. It is possible to be banned, if you apply yourself assiduously to the task.  :boring:

The "Dead website", I was banned for life there, too. I was resurrected, became a GM (when it was more active) and then it died, I left, it switched owner hands (the owner spends most of her time at IGI) and a month or so ago she made me a GM so I could help revitalize the website. I'm still trying to figure that out. With little input it's difficult but I need to argue, as I said and I've been banned from wwgha, atheistforums (net I think), etc., and countless Christian forums it was either go back to allpoetry.com regularly, or come here.

That's the thing: I actually don't look to be banned. You get to know me, I'm quite charming and humorous it's just I speak my mind, I don't hold back, and I don't lie about anything; and I do not let go of things if I feel I'm right, while being quite stubborn and opinionated in the process.

Nothing as exciting as you might imagine. I got a weeks ban for a smartass one-liner. They don't like those at 600club. You get a special mention and your own post in the Hall of Shame which explains publicly what you did. The worst bit, though, is that you're locked out of reading anything. That was... Hell!

Interesting.  :chin:

It's how smart or stupid people think your comments are...
If your score is: IQ: +345/-187, you would want the world to know that the world thinks your comments are smart.
If my score is: IQ: -345/+187, I wouldn't want the world to know that the world thinks my comments are stupid....because...well...what if they're really not?

That must be the Karma setting. And yes, we have debated turning it on. But it's ability to be divisive means it's unlikely to be switched on at Happy Atheist.

Serious question Nam. Have you ever considered starting your own forum? Go Daddy will host it for $100 a year for a 3 year contract. You couldn't get banned there.

I'm a member of a nominally atheist forum that doesn't ban for just about anything but blatant and continued harassment of a fellow member. Even then, the normal course of events is for a "council" of randomly chosen members to be convened to review the case before the ban can be finalized. Often, they don't play very nice there, but I've found it a worthwhile site.

I'd like you to stick around Nam, for various reasons of my own, but if you're interested, PM me, and I'll give you a link to that other site.

You could go wwgha's route: make people explain why they are applauding or smiting them.

To your second: I did once. Lasted a bit over two years in conjunction with some friends but we all went back to the website we originally were at. Anyway, when I'm a part of admin, I'm usually nicer based on the position I'm holding. I do not care for authority abusing their powers, so I'd be a hypocrite if I acted like myself in a position of authority. In my opinion.

I'm sorry. I'm still scoping the place out. Also, y'all have a lot of threads I don't really care for that are more active than others.

So start your own threads. They might not be as active as those but still...

Troll? Trolls are usually people who piss and leave (whether by their means, or someone else's). Trolls usually do not stick around and engage a community. I'm the type who likes to see who I'm dealing with.

I do like a good argument; better with a religious person. Seems only atheists are here. No matter, I can piss them off, too.

Yeah, we're shy of religious types lately.  Right now it's Bruce holding down the fort, and he's quite liberal in his theology.  We used to have several conservative Xtians (including one who'd invented his own sect), a few more liberal Xtians, at least one Muslim and even a Satanist (who I believe converted to Islam).  I guess we didn't argue enough for them either, or maybe didn't get convinced easily enough.

Honestly, I'm not sure yet if you've come here to troll, if you just tend to blunt and upfront with your ideas or a mixture of both but I do hope that you'll find a way to contribute to this forum without alienating people.

I'm not a troll. I'm blunt, and I may alienate people. I'm an arguer. I like to argue. My father (before we stopped talking to each other) proved to my sister that I will argue about anything. This is how it went: (instead of using my real name, I'll use my nickname, which is "Nam" since 1997)

Dad: "Nam, what's the color of black?"
Nam: "Um...black."
Nam"...well, actually black isn't a color. It's the absence of color..."
Dad: "See." (says toward my sister)
Nam: "Did you know that "white" is a reflection of all color, figuratively speaking..."
Dad: "You can shut up now."

I didn't. I kept going, and it pissed him off. Good times.

;)

We've got a strict no-preaching policy and we do enforce it.   Or rather, Tank does.  We'd probably lose atheist regulars if they had to put up with preaching here, of all places.  It is our place, after all.

I figured it would probably be a bit much asking a Witness not to witness, but if you know a religious who might actually be able to discuss without preaching invite them to give the place a look.

Yes. I for one react very negatively to any "preachy" posts in an atheists' forum.  Firstly, it's not as if there aren't any number of sites on the Interwebz they can preach on, doing it on an atheist forum is just rude. Secondly, if they actually came up with something novel every now and then maybe I would entertain it a bit, but they don't. I get tired of running into the same old non-arguments, logical fallacies and gross misrepresentations of science that I've seen countless times before.

As for the OP in this thread, I reserve my judgement for now, but my troll detector had been flickering,..

Exactly this.  I find religion fascinating and, altho I can become snappish about it at times (really am working on fixing that), it is one of those things I enjoy picking apart and examining.  Which isn't a hostile thing as many religious seem to believe, it's just how my mind processes information.  I do that with every juicy tidbit that falls into it.  But I look forward to hearing something new, or at least an old thought presented in a new way, given a different slant to think about, and not just the same old yada-yada I've heard literally all my life.

For somebody who prides himself on skills in argumentation, to engage in the intellectual dishonesty of misrepresenting another person's position is a rather sorry showing. Up your game; this is too easy.

Quote from: Nam on February 24, 2016, 05:25:59 PMRed text that. Or red text people calling me a troll, or implying it, 'cause you haven't done that yet. It's okày to call people troll or imply it without evidence to back it up but calling people an idiot goes too far?

You reappeared here with chest-thumping proclamations regarding your vast internet experience, and your storied history of being banned from other sites. You were generally welcomed, but people have a right to express their reservations regarding your motivation. If you're so thin-skinned that you have to immediately start insulting those people, then it appears you haven't learned much about how to handle such situations skillfully during your time online.

You've dished it out and some people have dished it right back. See following post.

To all concerned: Lay off the invective and name-calling. Please. This thread is supposed to be to welcome a returning member of this site. If you can't write something positive, then stay your fingers. Further shenanigans will get results you may not be pleased with.

You all are acting like a bunch of muppets (bar Recusant, except maybe the post prior in red but I'm haven't read that). The person says they have an argumentative character which they revel in and has been banned from a few sites because of it in an introduction post in a sub forum about intro-fucking-ductions which are what? Yeah you guessed it fuck-witts! Self-characterisations.

Straight off the bat you are all like "go on then start an argument", "ooooh look at you all boastful about your banning", "I think you're a troll" (none of those are direct quotes just the gist of comments). I don't blame Nam for calling Bluenose an idiot I'm calling Icarus for saying the same thing as well. If you poke your gonna get a response. Don't like the response? don't act like a whinny bitch that has been left in the cold all night because you acted like bent ref.

Nam has basically done fuck all to act like a troll or even indicate such. In fact they have done the opposite by engaging in many posts across the site in a none combative way or in a way to target users in a troll like manner.

I'm quite charming and humorous it's just I speak my mind, I don't hold back, and I don't lie about anything; and I do not let go of things if I feel I'm right, while being quite stubborn and opinionated in the process.

Those things you'd usually want to be known for offline. Have a nice day!  ;)
