Hello everyone, im jerry 17 years old.. kinda new to the whole athiest experience thing haha but im just wanting to learn more. My parents are both SUPER religious and it honestly sucks. They are so close minded its ridiculous. Anyways they make me go to church every sunday morning sunday night and wednesday night with them. I really dont think I can stand it anymore, its not like I make them go sit in an athiest circle 3 times a week you know? Any suggestions?

I've heard of parents hiring specialists to deprogram their children from cult influence.
Many young people have made similar complaints as you.
The time has come for a team of atheist deprogrammers for hire.

Welcome. Since your 17, perhaps you would like to try this, it worked for me at that age. Tell them you really need your independence and want to go to church alone. Tell them it will be more of a personal experience and that you think it will help you get closer to god. I'm guessing they go to morning mass, so say you want to go to 6PM for what ever reason. If they allow that, simply google what the bible reading is for that day, and if it's a religion where they don't read the same passage across the world... I'm sure you can find some other way to find out what was discussed in the event they quiz you.

Regardless, welcome to the boards.

EDIT: Never mind, I see they make you go twice on Sunday and than again of Wednesday. Assuming you aren't in a religion where they murder heathens, you could consider coming out to them? Here I was thinking my family made me waste a ton of my childhood in church. Perhaps you could say you are being drawn to a different church?

Hi jerry

1) Don't panic!
2) Get to know us a bit.
3) Read this How to tell your family you are an atheist.
4) Discuss your thoughts about 3 before you do anything.

Three times a week?  That's seriously harsh. Anyway, definitely read the link Tank posted. I hope it helps.

Welcome to HAF by the way. :D
