You're nearly a laugh But you're really a cry

Bad Penny II

It's an old song but I like the tone of the disaproval.
Who still remembers who Mary was?
It's only 11:30 long, it could do with some new verses.

The Prime of Oz is a pentecostal, he believes in miracles.
He has taken a chunk of coal into parliament, told us it's not so bad.
It is certainly very profitable.
I know, I know.
He tells schoolkids to stay at school, don't protest, let the adults take care of things.  I'd like to add a verse for him.
Well get writing then
Can you ask them?
We'd welcome lines from other malcontents.

Take my advice, don't listen to me.

QuotePigs (Three Different Ones)
Pink Floyd
Big man, pig man
Ha, ha, charade you are
You well heeled big wheel
Ha, ha, charade you are
And when your hand is on your heart
You're nearly a good laugh
Almost a joker
With your head down in the pig bin
Saying 'Keep on digging'
Pig stain on your fat chin
What do you hope to find
Down in the pig mine?
You're nearly a laugh
You're nearly a laugh
But you're really a cry
Bus stop rat bag
Ha, ha, charade you are
You fucked up old hag
Ha, ha, charade you are
You radiate cold shafts of broken glass
You're nearly a good laugh
Almost worth a quick grin
You like the feel of steel
You're hot stuff with a hatpin
And good fun with a hand gun
You're nearly a laugh
You're nearly a laugh
But you're really a cry
Hey you, Whitehouse
Ha, ha, charade you are
You house proud town mouse
Ha, ha, charade you are
You're trying to keep our feelings off the street
You're nearly a real treat
All tight lips and cold feet
And do you feel abused?
You got to stem the evil tide
And keep it all on the inside
Mary you're nearly a treat
Mary you're nearly a treat
But you're really a cry
Take my advice, don't listen to me.

I first heard this lying on the beach at Refuge Cove, Wilson's Promontory.  My mates were smoking dope and I was drinking a bottle of Dimple Haigh.  I loved this album then and have loved it ever since.  One of my all time favourites.

Oh, and yes, I remember Mary Whitehouse.  This song sums her up pretty well, a fucked up old hag.

"I cannot understand the popularity of that kind of music, which is based on repetition. In a civilized society, things don't need to be said more than three times."

My favourite track from Animals.  I love the imagery of the sheep rising up in a killing rampage, wave upon wave of demented avengers indeed!

Yeh! we got replies.
We were calling for new lines though.

I heard an old Man who doesn't like the Swedish mentally ill kid upsetting kids, and our prime with coal literally, actually, he had a chunk of coal in his hand ridiculing all who dare oppose the goodness of coal.

There should be a line in that.

Trust US, we're adults.

So now is 2040 and we are all looking for you
Hoo hoo hoo the things we'll do with your skin
Take my advice, don't listen to me.
