As mentioned in the title, keeps it out of the laid back lounge.

Well when a person picks up a ban you can put it under a specific forum out of the way like "Dump Pile of Crazy Troll Posts" section. Those who don't want to engage with the topics which can become a bit prickly can ignore it, those that want to discuss can do so without bothering new members and those who don't want to engage.

Good point. I'd be worried that that could cause people to think the issue was being hidden?

Not necessarily it would be in a clearly defined area intended specifically for announcements about bans which would be rare anyway. How many posts have you created that required a specific topic regarding a ban or a topic that need to be split off because people were annoyed at the decision (the latter probably more than the former) and didn't want it to ruin a legitimate thread.

Some users want the other thread closed, me and a few others would be pissed if it was. Those who don't like it can stick to their "consensus for favorite pie or enjoying the photo contributions of our members or the spiffy Gifs, or the recipes, or our spoofs for the likes of the ultra religious" if it is spun off into another area.
