Most of the women shown in the videa are from states in what is considered the "Bible Belt:" Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, Missouri, Louisiana, and Alabama are definitely in that region, and Indiana is borderline.

A couple of the responses seem to be politically correct non-answers. "I think we should let the government decide." The ignorance of that reply is appalling.

Considering that most of them at least thought it should be taught (even if they had dumb stipulations); I think that's an improvement over what people in similar positions would have said not too long ago.

That's probably true.

Well as my friend Carl always used to say "Never say pretty but dumb, always say pretty and dumb".

They aren't even that pretty its certainly nothing more than what a tonne of make-up, fake tan, hair extensions, and hair spray can help achieve. I always say "dumb is never pretty".

For the life of me I don't understand why these things don't accept that they're nothing but a cattle auction and just pare it down to the swimsuit contest.  It would simplify things and I can't imagine any unhappy viewers.

Were they all really so dumb ? Struck me some of them were just being studiedly evasive and were anxious not to adopt a committal position on a divisive issue which might antagonise viewers or whatever other electorate else was deciding their fate.

My favorite line...Ms Idaho "We need to be knowledged about it."   I also like how many of them don't seem to realize that it already is taught in schools.

...Because the average simpleton male wouldn't find a woman smarter than his simple-ass self hot..? Or because he would find her hot, but would still prefer not to deal with I'm-not-as-smart-as-my-girlfriend complex..?  ;D

Yeah, men and women have both been proven to be equally stupid over the last 6000 years.

I'm not sure I agree with this.  Looking back over history I think men have out-stupided women by a pretty significant margin.  Give us credit where credit due.

Then again, men did have a larger role in society back then. Women probably didn't have a chance to be stupid.

For every Sarah Palin there are 10 Dan Quayle's

"I believe we are on an irreversible trend toward more freedom and democracy - but that could change."

Although, if anyone knows where I could get a talking Sarah Plalin doll, one of those ones with the little string you pull....

The response that most encouraged me was the woman who said she was raised Catholic, and she thinks evolution should be taught because the Catholic church has no problem with it, and accepts evolution (although they do of course go for theistic evolution, but still). Why do I find what she said encouraging? Because out of everyone there, she was the only one who didn't necessarily throw science out the window just because of her belief system. The majority of Catholics I know have no problem with evolution. Anyone living in the Bible belt, hearing that response, might just have thought "hmmm... you mean, someone CAN be OK with evolution?" and maybe it got someone thinking.

I'd sooner see someone accept theistic evolution than outright creationism. At least that way, you've got some ground you can talk with them on.

As for any of the beauty pageants themselves... I refuse to watch them. Like BCE and Tank said... like a cattle auction.

Also, for the other responses, I think some of them were carefully calculated to be as non-committal as possible. Saying the wrong thing can get you eliminated long before the swimsuit round.  :P

Though in that sense they're a bit more "evolved" than other theists who are into creationism, it's still a bit...meh because they accpet it because their church leaders say they can (that it's been tested and deemed safe, basically ::) ), and not on its own merits.

And then you get popes saying the oddest things, such as "Religion can purify science from idolatry and false absolutes." Major WTF?

They're not attractive. Most of them have so much make up on, it looks like some Crayola's gang banged their face.

I gave myself a headache rolling my eyes so hard when Miss Virginia said, "Bits and pieces should be taught... so we can figure out what we want to believe is true."

.....really?

This is one of the main problems with the religious, they cherry pick.
