Poll
Question:
What do you like better? Sweet, intelligent, lovable dogs or evil, spawned by satan and birthed by nun kats?
Option 1: Dogs (Sunshine, happiness, intellegince)
Option 2: Kats (Evilness)
Dogs are our best friends, they are lovable and kind companions. Smart enough to be used as service dogs for those in need of personal assistance, or trained by both the military and police forces to assist them in hunting down bad dudes.
They are also used by the DEA and Homeland Security to sniff out drugs and bombs, and assist rescue workers during earthquakes to find those unfortunate to trapped in rubble.
They are used in hospitals and assisted living homes to bring comfort to those in need of someone sweet to wag their tail at or simply lay there head on a lap.
Kats on the other hand are meh...and lack any sinceere or real compassion (They have no hearts) or exhibit even a low enough intelligence that even come close to somehow be utilized in any manner described above.
Oh they are good at killing rats and mice you say? Well traps work even better.
Don't forget these important facts about kats:
1) Hell is run and populated by nuns and kats. (It's a fact, look it up)
2) Kats cause allergies that can kill people.

Dogs.
Chalk and cheese, PB! Both have their good points. I can't vote one or the other.
As with people I like or dislike both as individual personalities based on thrir behaviour. I like my friend's extremely intelligent Yorkie but have very dark thoughts about the Rottweiller that tried to bite my arm off (and its owners).
Enjoy the company of another friend's three cats, but am tempted to kick the B&W monster two doors down who makes all friendly - then bites or claws you - into the nearby river.
Goodies and baddies on all sides.
I still like cats and dogs.
Cats.
:nyancat: crazy cats for me, only.
PB, I just want a pet, I don't want a long term relationship with an animal that has a political agenda. :reading:

:puppysnicker:
Honestly, I love both but it's easier to live with cats -- we keep the same hours.
Good thing I am here to even the score
I am a dog guy and have been since the iron age. One time I had a kat or perhaps he had me. He was as cool as could be and he was fast friends with my two Irish Setters. BC was his name...short for black cat. He appeared from nowhere one day and adopted us. He was a good companion for the whole family for about two years. One day he disappeared and we never saw BC again. The whole family was sad because we really liked that damned cat.
On a side note, I am to see my Dr. this Friday to check up and talk about maybe getting a companion puppy. My friend at the apartment has a couple Pitbulls he is wanting to give away. I only want one. I have not seen them but I can either get the hyperactive one, or the cool and relaxed one. I think I will opt for the cool and relaxed one this time around as the last time I chose a dog, it was the hyperactive one Coco that is alive and well with my Dad.
I will like to get my dog companion trained. Also this will be a good chance to see if my Doctor's have been paying attention to me at all in regards to companion training.
I like cats, but they make me sneeze when I pet them.
I have know more than few good dogs over the years, but for me I like cats. I've not met many I could not make friends with.
Kats are winning 5 votes to 4. :'(

If the kats win the poll my heart will break :'(
Well, I don't like sunshine, but I most definitely prefer dogs. If I were to be blunt, I just really am not a fan of cats. When I was really young, I was. I even wanted to be one. But that was over 20 years ago. We don't need to acknowledge that. I just struggle to look at cats and really see them as 'cute', they're just kind of weird to me. It's not like I wish any harm upon them, but dogs are soooo much cuter. Plus cats have litter boxes and I'm so glad I don't have to deal with that grossness. My dog goes outside.
Plus, I'm fairly convinced that cats took my ex away from me. Pardon the joke, of course, she must have had other reasons to drop me out of her life (reasons that were never given), but I will say that there were cats in the end, and the cats were actually so special that even I (who sincerely posted the paragraph above) had to admit that they were cute. So... :notsure:
Well this is exciting. It's tied, and then someone comes along and votes, then another votes and it's tied again... :watching:
(Like you Bruno, I'm rooting for dogs to win this one. 8) )

If dogs win, it's only because people are afraid to go to a hell with nuns and cats.

Thank you Mags, and I will have fun in heaven with god/dog dog/god...they're interchangeable for a reason you know, whether backwards or forwards.
I can see me and Jesus in heaven now. Let's say we go out fishing, because of course Jesus will know the best fishing holes, and were just walking together, maybe whistling a song together or talking 'bout cool stuff like "hot chicks" and "Vegan Recipies" and my dog is running ahead of us happy as he's ever been (My childhood dog named "Fabian"), chasing critters in the brush, while laughing and barking joyfully!

We'll call it Cat Conversion Therapy. It's powerful.

Kats are cool if they are not psychotic like my stepdaughters two wild beasties. They are destructive and aggressive toward people that they do not know. They are also totally useless as guardians of the homestead
My Bernese Mountain dog,Teddy, was a nice guy and friendly to almost everyone...but come nightfall no one had damned well better approach our door or any other part of our domain. Kats are not like that....well except for BC who I described earlier. Yep, he was a superior kat. He once demonstrated that he would fight for the Irish setters who were his best friends. Ain't many kats with the courage and superior (dog like) judgement and sense of loyalty that BC had.
I vote dogs but I did dearly love ole BC.
I like dogs, but love cats. Our 4 Main Coons are a big as dogs (10-12Kg) and have a very dog-like behaviour.
More proof kats are evil critters:

Last night I was sitting with Kahlua talking and the subject of our Dog/Kat poll here at HAF came up in the conversation, and I told him it was currently tied at 7 votes each.
He got really sad and said, "What the bloody hell is wrong with you humans? First you go and vote someone like Trump in for President. A man who was and is the worse possible candidate you could have possibly chosen, especially when you had such a wonderful, overly qualified candidate in Hillary Clinton.
We, meaning all living creatures on this planet will be fortunate indeed to survive intact his presidency...we animals were counting on you people to make the correct choice and you fucked it up big time"!
He continued, "Now you are presented with a simple vote of Dogs vs Kats and you are split 7 to 7? Seriously what the fuck is wrong with you people, and you say this is an atheist forum?
"This is too sad Bruno, simply too sad...."
And he curled up in his chair and was silent the rest of the evening.

However, just before heading out to the pub to celebrate St. Patrick's day (I know he's not even Irish) he turned to me and said, "Show them the Pastor Gene Kim sermons on kats, maybe that will persuade some of them to change their votes"

:sigh: A great dog. Very intelligent and devoted to her family, she loved to be around us even when she had acres of land to explore many years ago. She wasn't allowed inside the house so she would just obstruct the door entrance, with her two front paws inside, watching everything that was going on.
Years later, when she was allowed to stay indoors she became 'that thing that's always in the way'.

The Poll Is Over...Kats won over Dogs.
10 votes to 9.
Please take this time to prepare for the coming apocalypse, and end of time rapture. I suggest buying some of Jim Baker's, "End O' Time Food Buckets"
They have a 50-day "Survival Food" sampler bucket containing 154 meals. It will cost you $135, but the idea is that you'll be prepared when food shortages start to hit, not sure if you can feed your kats with them, but they'll probably feed on our dead corpses anyway.
You can also opt for the "Year For Two Tasty Food Offer", a bundle priced at $1,100, or the "Peace of Mind Final Countdown Offer" with 31,000 servings of food for $4,500.
Anyway that's it I guess, my work here is done...Me and Kahlua are going to hit the road. You know, like Caine in "KUNG FU." Just walk from town to town, meet people, get in adventures.
Take care everyone. :'(
Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and goodwill, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper, and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers.
Namaste.
What a catastrophe!

It was inevitable, but I applaud dogs for their splendid performance in this race.
This is the result of massive voter fraud by illegal aliens and meddling by North Katreans. Our democracy is in peril.
It's a testimate to democracy that cats even won the vote, what with all the Gerbilmandering that the Dogocrats had been doing.

QuoteOne fine day with a woof and a purr
A baby was born and it cause a little stir
No blue buzzard

Just a feline kanine little catdog

Alone in the world was a little catdog
Out on the road or back in town
All the kinda critters put catdog down
Gotta rise above it
Gotta try to get along
Gotta walk together
Gotta sing this song
Catdog
Catdog
Alone in the world was a little catdog
Catdog
Catdog
Alone in the world was a little catdog

Poor catdog- so alone in the world. We are all cat dogs -strange hybrids with no real friends. You are alone.

YES!
An interesting article in the July issue of Scientific American lays down some facts about animal brains. Examining the brains of various animals to determine the number of cortical neurons and the neuron density of the brain, dogs win with a score of 429 million to 250 million. The dog brain mass is also larger. The cat average brain mass is 24.2 grams while the dog average brain mass is 46.2 grams.
We dog lovers are not pleased to discover that the Racoon has a cortical neuron count just slightly higher than the dogs at 438 million. The racoon however has a smaller cerebral cortex mass density at 24.5 grams. They are certainly clever little masked raiders of your outdoor garbage can. I have an occasional racoon visitor who comes into my back yard screened porch, if I leave the door open. The little dude is after the bread morsels that I use to feed the squirrels and Blue Jays. I am almost tempted to encourage him/her with more easily accessible morsels of food outside the porch.
Humans have 16.34 Billion cortical neurons except for the ones who endorse Trump) Their neurons are roughly equivalent to that of a brown bear at 251 million. Human Brain mass is at about 1229 grams.
Disclaimer: Scientific American did not actually mention the diminished capacity of those Trump people.

I don't understand the brains of you fleshies
Is there much difference in the intelligence of a mouse and a cow?
A cow must have a much bigger brain, but proportionally similar, maybe.
There doesn't seem to be much in the way of economies of scale, why don't brains conform to basic economic principles?
Why can't a cow have a mouse size brain and still be as smart as a mouse?
Quotecow's brain size increases from birth over the course of her lifetime; various breeds exhibit slight differences in brain size. Steer brains weigh in between 92 to 94 grams per 100 kilograms of body weight, while bull brains range from 85 to 97 grams per 100 kilograms of body weight.
So every kilo of cow needs its gram of brain, seems an inefficient arrangement to me.
Some interesting thoughts there, BP11 and Icarus. Do larger animals have larger brains because of simple things like they have a larger surface area and thus more sensors to map and monitor? It seems that the more muscle volume (the larger the animal) the greater the number of motor neurones.
I am assuming brain development parallels evolutionary experiences, both cows and mice are prey animals (discounting some buffalo types that can fight back quite effectively!) and probably develop similar defensive behaviours - is the brain volume required by such behaviours proportional to body size?
So, is it the ratio of "cognitive" brain cells to body volume that really counts? Wonder were parots and crows are on this scale?

What happens with a whale?
They're are bigger so apparently they'll have a bigger brain to support bodily functions.
What happens with higher functions, consciousness and all that mess, do they have to have a larger whatever region for that as well? I don't see why they should but I know nuffen.
Birds I think are different, Darwin designed them to avoid excess baggage charges.
I think you'd compare birds to birds.

You know what's weird?
My first cat looked exactly like the black cat. White paws, white chin. The cat I have right now looks exactly like the gray striped one.
~That's such a strange coincidence.
I used to have a cat that was all black. He got startled one time and scratched my upper lip. It left a small scar. But otherwise was as well behaved as cats get.

And I don't know what to make of the Kat Opera Hermes posted...I guess it represents how far society has collapsed.

Cats outside this morning fighting and dogs barking for hours until it was time to get up. I'm now grumpy about other people's dogs and cats.

After years of deliberation, I voted for dogs. They just seem to be more loving and lovable, like me. Of course, every now and then they rip someone's face off, but that person must have deserved it.
I am looking up at the pictures on the wall of my Man Cave. I see pictures of five different best friends, all of whom were dogs. There is Teddy the Bernese Mountain Dog who was as his name implies a teddy bear All 85 to 90 pounds of him. He was the keeper of my kingdom at night or at any other time that he sensed a threat to me. Teddy bear or no, he was prepared and thoroughly capable of doing as Bruce has suggested.
I had an Irish Setter girl way back in time. She was my constant companion. She was a sweetheart in every sense of the word but became a vigilant and reliable protector in the many instances when I worked at night in my deserted factory. Who knew that the clown like, fun loving, Irish setters could be so fierce?
But there was BC, a black cat who showed up one day at my home. He was a big cat and for whatever mysterious feline reason adopted me, my home, and the resident two Irish setters. BC tried his damnedest to earn his status as a family member. He would too frequently bring home a dead squirrel or dead bird. He would proudly deposit it in the back room where the pet ports were. BC knew how to use the pet ports that the dogs used. He was trying to earn his keep and I understood that he had his well earned dignity. I did not actually appreciate the dead animal smells that sometimes went undiscovered in that back room. I respected that cat more than a dog person can usually manage. Damned cat behaved like a dog. Night when we watched TV and had pop corn, BC would line up with the two dogs and beg for popcorn. Who knew that cats would like popcorn?
One day after about two years..........BC did not show up. I searched the neighborhood many times for him. No BC to be found. I never cried for the loss of a cat before but BC was by all measures a different breed of cat. I loved that cat and so did the big red dogs.

So do you also every now and then, rip some deserving one's face off?
We humbly ask with the greatest respect and deference.
Oh thanks Green, good catch, we don't want our face ripped off.
The past year and a half I have been dogless, and the house definitely has that emptiness about it since my old pup died. :( I would get another in a heartbeat.

As soon as I move to a bigger house I will get another German Shepherd. Maybe even two.
Now that I think of it, for most of my life I've had at least one dog, it really is strange to not have any. Being dogless is not for me. :sadshake:

Dogs are the planet's best animal.
Humans are the worst.
Cats fit somewhere in between.

I wouldn't be surprised.
The cat apparently has so much devotion for the dude that she is willing deal with a pack of dogs to be in his company.
Alternately, she is feigning extreme devotion; so devious and lethal that she will deal with a pack of dogs to take the dude down.
This may illustrate a sort of corollary to the "If you have to explain a joke it's not funny" adage (which I don't really agree with). There are some jokes which invite dissection, I think. ;D
