Title: Urges
Post by: Dave on October 13, 2017, 09:32:58 PM
Does anyone else get strange urges? At strange times of dsy.

2130 in the evening and I get an unignorable urge to break open the jar of pickled cucumber, shallot rings and carrot sticks I made a couple of weeks ago!

I did not want ice cream with it so I can''t be pregnant.

I get strange urges at strange times of the day, but I don't think I should share such personal things with everyone, here.  :notsure:

When in an elevator I get the urge to press all the buttons just before I get off. Yeah.

(I don't do that anymore, though. I swear I don't!).

I often resist the urge to plow the idiots that cut me off into the retaining wall.

Oh! Those type or urges... :thoughtful:

I think I mention before that I get the urge to eat cauliflower, or coconut, sometimes. Lately, I've had the urge to eat cucumbers, pepper, and ginger. (Not together).

~I know, weird.  :shifty:

Ginger with anything is good. Well savoury anyway.

Right now I'm craving a nice, juicy BBQ for lunch. :yum: This is odd because this hardly ever happens.

I mean, just look at this image!

Ginger goes with sweet as well, mashed banana, molasses sugar and ginger sarnie anyone? Toast it under the grill and serve with ice cream!

Yeuk! Sorry, don't go for BBQ sauce at all. Nor sweet-and-sour dishes or fruit in curries or ham "Hawiai style"..  :snooty:

Now, marinade in chilli and garlic then grill - yum!

That's why it's an odd craving, I hardly ever want BBQ.

It has passed now, though.

(I like BBQ sauce, and whenever I order a sandwich from Subway I always choose that sauce! :yum: )

Lately I sometimes get the urge to hit the road, simply take off and rediscover the world. I used to feel so connected to it, and now it sometimes feels like I'm only an observer, staring out through a window, never getting off the train.

Next stop Willoughby.

I'm hitting the road after work on Friday, Nov. 3, and driving about 7 hours to Guadalupe National Park.  Early the next morning I'm hiking the McKittrick Canyon Trail, through maple trees in the midst of their autumn color riot (we get it later down here).  One of the most beautiful places in the state.  The "hit the road" urge is always just under the surface for me.

I'm jealous Bruce, and wish I could head out with you, would love to see some pictures, hope you can post a few here. Anyway please enjoy your trip...I was down in Tennessee and Georgia back in September, and though I did get an afternoon of hiking done in the Smokies it wasn't near enough.

Hoping to get up into Northern Michigan later in November, possibly do some camping.

Next year I'm trying to get out to California to visit with my niece and her husband and do some surfing...we are also trying to plan a trip to hike across the Grand Canyon.

I'm really feeling the urge now to get away, did a lot of biking last weekend, and that helped smooth out my desire some, but it wasn't enough...

It's like this quote from John Muir.

Keep close to Nature's heart...and break clear away, once in a while, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean.

My spirit (Whatever that is) definitely needs a good washing.

I have the urge to strangle my niece's ex-boyfriend and I'm so angry with him it's got me wondering if I would do such a thing if it was guaranteed I would't get caught. It would solve a lot of problems. I wish I could stop the thoughts churning around n my head. I thought I would be calmer and more accepting of life as I got older. Instead i'm a nascent murdering granny. 😡

Killing the bastard is an appealing idea Essie. It is not a practical one however. If it is any comfort (probably not) bad behavior by boyfriends is almost a pandemic.

I too have a death wish for my grand daughter's shit head husband of less than a year. The slimeball managed to lose his job for lying to his employer, a law enforcement agency. He also managed to knock up the girlfriend he had on the side. To make matters even more sticky, he impregated the grand daughter who has, last week, delivered a preemie of 7 months.   So far so good with the infant, but thus far I have not viciously garotted the miserably irresponsible husband who is now  facing divorce proceedings.. There is more but that is the general idea. Some boyfriends or even husbands are not very responsible.

Be calm Essie. You are one of the voices of reason. It is OK to be immensely angry, but not OK to act or even contemplate reprisal in haste.

Perhaps you could hire some one else to do the job. An acknowledged professional like Jack the Ripper, Sweeny Todd....Lucretia Borge.... ?

Ha ha! I'm glad I didn't act on my urge Icarus et al. The judge in the latest custody hearing sent him away with a good telling off for being obstructive. We are cautiously optimistic about the final hearing in Feb. Their barrister was superb, but he cost £2000 for that one appearance. My bro was talking of selling his dream home in Cumbria to cover costs. I have lent him some money too but where does it all end if FuckFace keeps applying for changes to the custody arrangements?

Moderated, and mostly regretted, direct action. Often a sort of "passive" action, never physically violent, rarely even verbally so - complying with another's request can sometimes be the best way of getting your own back. Retribution is not in my active dictionary.

When, with unjustified anger, I was told to, "Fuck off if you don't like it!" I did just that, and will never go back. It was really just the final tree trunk on top of a lot of straws.

Yes this, I'm in total agreement with you Essie...I love ginger. I drink ginger kombucha's and non-alcholic ginger brew all the time, and keep jars of ginger in my refridgertor. I love cold, picked, ginger.

Local sushi restaurant I frequent know me enough that they always give me extra! Like lots of extra...

I get the urge sometimes when I wake up in the middle of the night sometimes and I grab a slice or two...good stuff.

I have the urge now. To eat ginger.

Oh and pickles, I sometimes get the urge to eat cold pickles at weird times,...nothing in the world is better than a cold dill pickle, especially after sex. 8)

This may be odd, but sometimes, like today, I get a very strong urge to drink Pepsi. I usually hate soda.... it's too sweet and makes me kind of sick to my stomach (and it's SO bad for you). But every once in a while I just want that cold bubbly sweetness on my tongue. But only a couple drinks, then the whole rest of the bottle or can is wasted. It's such a waste of money. But god, is it nice for those couple of drinks!

That first sizzling explosion of both bubbles and taste on your tongue . . .

Do you have "lemon sherbet" over there, a mixture of citric acid+baking soda+sugar+flavouring ground to a flour like powder that sizzles as it hits the damp surfaces in the mouth? We used to get it in a cardboard tube with a "straw" made from liquorice to suck it through.

Um, I don't think I've ever had that, but I would totally try it! It sounds lovely, kind of makes my mouth water just thinking about it!

I had an urge this week since I've been eating healthier. A burger, topped with shaved prime rib and popcorn shrimp in lieu of onion straws. For the side I wanted bacon man n' cheese with garlic fries to use as chopsticks. Dying of a heart attack doesn't sound so bad when the path to he'll is paved with such delicious goodness. But, I stuck to my plan and had a grilled chicken sandwich with brocollI. Starting to get tired of brocolli.

The problem with cauliflower is the enormous volume of melted cheese required to make it edible...

Pfft...come on! :P It isn't so bad.

It just looks a little like styrofoam, doesn't mean it tastes like it too!

Let's just say that cauliflower, along with beets, are two of my least favorite vegetables. Hey, there's some good news... I have an excuse not to eat beets from now on!

Ah, caulifower just needs to be treated right, lightly steamed, then if you like, sprinkled with a little grated parmesan cheese, or broken up into tiny florets and eaten raw in a salad, yum!  Oh. and, of course, cauliflower is a key ingredient of piccalilli, the very best mustard pickle of them all!

Beetroot is essential on any hamburger, way better than those horrible dill pickles that American fast food chains insist on putting on their burgers.  Roast beetroot is delicious with any roast, but especially roast pork.  Cold baby beetroot makes a wonderful addition to any salad.  Many years ago I went shopping in Waikiki to make some "Aussie" hamburgers for some people I was staying with.  With some difficulty I managed to find everything I needed (although I did make my own buns, I can't stand sugar in mt bread), except for beetroot.  All I could find was tinned beets, which are not the same, pale imitations of the real thing.  Still my friends liked the burgers, with home made patties (including herbs and spices), the beets, toasted buns, lettuce, tomato, crisp fried onion, cheese, bacon, egg and ketchup.

No, just normal cappuccinos.  :)
