Title: Don't panic!
Post by: Tank on November 10, 2017, 06:51:07 PM
With a bit of luck the forum will move from an account owned by Whitney to one 'owned' by me. This will mean that the forum will not be active from time to time over the next few days. Look out for updates here and on the Facebook Happy Atheist page.

It should only be an hour or so. Asmo needs to backup the forum database. Whitney transfers the domain from her hosting agreement to mine. Asmo uploads the forum database to my shared server account and things should start working again.

That is true, it will be difficult. On top of that, I am already dreading the week of the 20th, when I will be in Dubai. I am pretty sure our godless site is blocked there, so I will not be able to access HAF again until the 24th, when I get back home.

Oh, just bigfoot dancing with Andromeda in front of a band comprised of winged pink elephants lead by Nessie.

It's not done yet!

Asmo is backing up the data base. The site will close for a while and then reopen. You'll be logged out in that process so you'll need to log back in.

Only glitch I have found so far is that some of the emojis appear only as text labels, not the image, but I think that started early in the morning, before the swap.

Something you learn in the military. All good plans have a couple of "shoulds" in them.
That's why we prefer to have more than one.

Now that we are back in business, is it time to discuss the dollar/pound/kronar/sheckle cost of making the change over?

Asmodean allowed me to enter his Facebook dungeon while he worked. It was thrilling!

I was like:

I miss the little YouTube button, it was so cute...sigh I miss the good ole days here at HAD, now it's all square angles, and neat little rows of percent-encoding. :'(

Thanks for all the work, guys. One question: when I try to upload my avatar, it gives the following message.

An Error Has Occurred!
The attachments upload directory is not writable. Your attachment or avatar cannot be saved.

Are there restrictions now on the location or format of avatars?

This is a known glitch. Asmo to sort out over the next few days.
Thank you or highlighting this.

Thanks, Tank. It must be divine intervention, but I see that Mags still has an avatar that shows.

Ok, I've fixed the issue with inhouse avatars, but it does seem like a few, my own much-lamented Gray Blob included, were not re-built properly. Dang. Trouble is, I can't actually find them where they were supposed to be on the old site, in backups or... Anywhere. It's a bit weird.

This concerns 34 inhouse avatars. I will see what I can do, but I suppose it's just as easy to reupload.

Uploading of avatars should work OK now. Some absolute path related issues there.

Presumably because her avatar is linked to an external URL.

Correct. All external avatars, and those internal which were where they were expected to be, are unaffected.
