Title: "Truth in Music"
Post by: afreethinker30 on June 16, 2008, 08:20:01 PM
A Perfect Circle seems to have a "Truth in Music" stance that I love.I think one of the most spot on songs from the band is "Counting Bodies Like Sheep To The Rhythm Of The War Drum".The Cd Emotive has a anti-war theme. And also Tool the song Judith would totally be my theme song if I could have one. :D

"Don't fret precious I'm here, step away from the window
Go back to sleep
Safe from pain and truth and choice and other poison devils,
See, they don't give a
f*** about you, like I do."

"I’ll be the one to protect you from your enemies and all your demons
I'll be the one to protect you from a will to survive and a voice of reason
I'll be the one to protect you from your enemies and your choices son
They're one in the same, I must isolate you…
Isolate and save you from yourself …"

Judith
"You're such an inspiration
For the ways that I will never ever choose to be.
Oh, so many ways for me to show you how your
Savior has abandoned you.
F*** your God, your Lord, your Christ.
He did this, took all you had
And left you this way
Still you pray never stray
Never taste of the fruit
You never thought to question why.

It's not like you killed someone.
It's not like you drove a hateful spear into his side.
Praise the one who left you broken down and paralyzed.
He did it all for you.

Oh, so many ways for me to show you how your
Dogma has abandoned you.
Pray to your Christ, to your God.
Never taste of the fruit, never stray, never break.
Never choke on the lie, even though he's the one
Who did this to you, you never thought to question why.

I thought of more.
Frank Zappa
Jesus Thinks You're A Jerk
"With a ku-klux muu-muu
In the back of the truck,
If you aint born again,
They wanna mess you up, screamin:
No abortion, no-siree!
Lifes too precious, can't you see!
(what's that hangin from the neighbors tree?
Why, it looks like colored folks to me --
Would they do that...seriously? "

Skunk Anansie - Selling Jesus
"THEY`RE SELLING JESUS AGAIN
THEY WANT YOUR SOUL AND YOUR MONEY YOUR BLOOD AND YOUR VOTES"

Marilyn Manson - Fight Song
"But I'm not a slave to a god
that doesn't exist
But I'm not a slave to world
that doesn't give a s***."

Voltaire-God Thinks
"I hate people who blame the Devil for their own shortcomings and
I hate people who thank God when things go right."

Yeah... APC have their moments.

My personal favorites are Gravity and Passive, the latter from Emotive.

Judith is considered by many one of the epitomes of atheist songs.

I think early VAST (Visual Audio Sensory Theater) had some great stuff.I read at the time that he was questioning his beliefs and his general thoughts on the world. It seems to be more of a statement at times rather then a question to me.But then again music is different to everyone.

NIN:
Trent Rocks!

What if this whole crusade's
A charade
And behind it all there's a price to be paid
For the blood
On which we dine
Justified in the name of the holy and the divine

Just how deep do you believe?
Will you bite the hand that feeds?
Will you chew until it bleeds?
Can you get up off your knees?
Are you brave enough to see?
Do you want to change it?

So naive
I keep holding on to what I want to believe
I can see
But I keep holding on and on and on and on

March of the Pigs has always been a fav of mine. And he of course is that much more cooler because he's worked with Tori Amos  :)

I mentioned "The Hand that Feeds" recently in another thread.  Nine Inch Nails was going to play it on an MTV awards show with a picture of Bush behind them, and MTV canceled the NIN appearance and replaced them with another band.

Of course there is NIN's "Heresy".  When I first heard it years ago, I was surprised how bluntly anti-religion the lyrics are.
QuoteHe sewed his eyes shut because he is afraid to see
He tries to tell me what I put inside of me
He's got the answers to ease my curiosity
He dreamed a God up and called it Christianity
God is dead and no one cares
If there is a hell I'll see you there
He flexed his muscles to keep his flock of sheep in line
He made a virus that would kill off all the swine
His perfect kingdom of killing, suffering and pain
Demands devotion atrocities done in his name
God is dead and no one cares
If there is a hell I'll see you there
...etc.

NIN is touring the U.S. starting in about a month.  All indications are that it will be a great show. The bassist on this tour worked with Tori Amos also.   I got my ticket about a month ago.

Discipline is one cut of the full album called The Slip.  NIN release the whole album for free as a download; you can get it from theslip.nin.com (http://theslip.nin.com/) .  It was released as a gift to the fans since the previous Ghosts album sold so well.

Modest Mouse
Ocean Breathes Salty

You missed when time and life shook hands and said goodbye.
When the earth folded on itself.
And said "Good luck, for your sake I hope heaven and hell
are really there, but I wouldn't hold my breath."
You wasted life, why wouldn't you waste death?
You wasted life, why wouldn't you waste death?

Muse
Thoughts of a Dying Atheist

Eerie whispers
trapped beneath my pillow
won't let me sleep
your memories

I know you're in this room
I'm sure I heard you sigh
floating in-between
where our worlds collide

It scares the hell out of me
and the end is all I can see
and it scares the hell out of me
and the end is all I can see

I know the moment's near
and there's nothing we can do
look through a faithless eye
are you afraid to die?

Bad Religion
God's Love

Striking at mental apparitions
Like a drunk on a vacant street
Silently beset by the hands of time
And elegant in its fury
An aberrant crack as skeletons yield
To unrelenting gravity
While viruses prowl for helpless victims
Who succumb rapidly

Tell me; where is the love?
In a careless creation
When there's no "above"
There's no justice
Just a cause and no cure
And a bounty of suffering
It seems we all endure
And what I'm frightened of
Is that they call it "God's love"

Well we twist in torment and make believe
There's a truth and we all submit
"Believe my eyes," my brain replies
To all that they interpret

I know there's no reason for alarm
But who needs perspective when it comes to pain and harm
We can change our minds; there's a better prize

They call it God's love
My pain is God's love

Tori Amos
God
God, sometimes you just don't come through
God, sometimes you just don't come through
Do you need a woman to look after you
God, sometimes you just don't come through

You make pretty daisies, pretty daisies love
I gotta find what you're doing about things here
A few witches burning gets a little toasty here
I gotta find
Why you always go
When the wind blows

YES!  My son is 8 going on 18.  Girls have cooties... today, we asked him if he preferred blond hair, brunette or red head... and he refused to answer.  IT was so cute!  LIke if he answered, we'd rush out and set him up.  LOL!  And I won't be officially "OLD" until I'm 57... and then at 70, I'll be "oldy-old."  ROFL!

One of the best songs i've heard.  Heaven Shall Burn - Counterweight
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SsOpSXRpuM

Unrelenting, their endeavour to rule lives
Teaching you an artificial truth,
That you will grieve no more,
That you will die no more.
Narrow minded mercenaries,
Slave traders, soul collectors.

Send a promise of destruction to those who will not kneel.
Derision of the upright ones; as fear devours all doubts

[Refrain:]
But there are so many things I hold beyond their reach
The doom you promised me may come, I'm not afraid
You cannot save me
I am the counterweight.
No need to save me
For I'm the counterweight.

And I will grieve no more,
I will die no more

Darkest Hour - Demons  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiDC1-Ta-7s
Darkest Hour - Doomsayer "And who can save you?  Not their gods and not their masters.  Who will free you?  Look in the mirror."
Alexisonfire - My God's a Reasonable Man
Smile Empty Soul - The Freaks Are Coming
Smile Empty Soul - Silhouettes
Smile Empty Soul - Holes
Smile Empty Soul - Every Sunday
Parkway Drive - A Cold Day In Hell
Bad Religion - American Jesus
A Day To Remember - Why Walk on Water When We've Got Boats
At The Gates - Slaughter of the Soul
Hurt - Rapture http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrvDKZcwpA0
In Flames - The Quiet Place
It Prevails - Explanation Content "Your faith is fear, mine is not lost only found within myself"

NOFX  Idiots Are Taking Over

Its not the right time to be sober
Now the idiots have taken over
Spreading like a social cancer, is there an answer?

Mensa membership exceeding
Tell me why and how are all the stupid people breeding
Watson, its really elementary
The industrial revolution
Has flipped the bitch on evolution
The benevolent and wise are being cornered, ostracized, what a bummer
The world keeps getting dumber
Insensitivity is standard and faith is being fancied over reason

Darwins rollin over in his coffin
The fittest are surviving much less often
Now everything seems to be reversing, and its worsening
Someone flopped a steamer in the gene pool
Now angry mob mentalitys no longer the exception, its the rule
And Im startin to feel a lot like charlton heston
Stranded on a primate planet
Apes and orangutans that ran it to the ground
With generals and the armies that obeyed them
Followers following fables
Philosophies that enable them to rule without regard

Theres no point for democracy when ignorance is celebrated
Political scientists think the same one vote that some monkeys are inbred
Majority rule, dont work in mental institutions
Sometimes the smallest softest voice carries the grand biggest solutions

What are we left with?
A nation of god-fearing pregnant nationalists
Who feel its their duty to populate the homeland
Pass on traditions
How to get ahead religions
And prosperity be a symbol to culture

The idiots are takin over

Music is one of the greatest forms of art that ever existed.

It has a lot of use some use it for relaxing and some use it as a form of medication according to the article I have read.

"Greek physicians used flutes, lyres, and zitters to heal their patients. They used vibration to aid in digestion, treat mental disturbance, and induce sleep. Aristotle (323–373 BCE)"

Which is really cool though I do not know how does this work maybe it sends stimuli to our brain that help us reduce our stress level which is bad to our health. I got a bit curious and read an article about "if an artist or musicians live longer" https://psmag.com/social-justice/artists-musicians-live-longer-lives-72840

Personally, I love listening to music that is chill and meaningful lyrics the one that I can relate with my life experiences.

I love to learn more about music and soon be able to make and edit my own music (https://www.adorama.com/alc/best-free-music-production-software).

If he is rolling in his coffin, it is because peoples still do not get it.
The clever economically successful won't or will stop at one, unfit.
The not so clever will have many and claim government money, fit.
