The suspect in Washington state who recently gunned down four cops, Maurice Clemmons, was an evangelical Christian who believed that he was the Jesus character and that the Apocalypse was eminent.

QuoteClemmons was charged in Washington state earlier this year with assaulting a police officer and raping a child, and investigators in the sex case said he was motivated by visions that he was Jesus Christ and that the world was on the verge of the apocalypse.

Three thoughts on this:

1) Compare and contrast this looney-tune with any garden variety end-times fundy Buy-bull thumper (aka evangelical Christian):

Both believe The Apocalypse (Rapture, End-Time, etc) is eminent and, inextricable and functional to such event, both believe in the Second Coming of the Jesus character.   The difference is that the garden variety Christer doesn't (usually) think that he, himself, is that person.  But, given that somebody has to be that Jesus character, it's not that far of a stretch, within such delusional world, to take the additional step and believe that one is that cosmic character, as was the case with Clemmons' reported belief.

2) It is worth mentioning that one of those garden variety Apocalypse believers/promoters is Mike Huckabee, himself an evangelical pastor, who, as Arkansas governor, pardoned Clemmons’ 108 year prison sentence nine years ago.

Notice in the below excerpts of Clemmons’ clemency appeal the use of code words that would have been tacitly noticed by the evangelical governor: “Christian family,” “angel of death,” “change for the good in my heart,” “grace,” “compassion,” “pray,” “mercy,” “God bless” …

3) Clearly, Clemmons is/was insane; make your own conclusions about Huckabee and the entire Apocalypse/End-times believing herd.  Moreover, given the irrationality aspect of Apocalyptic ideation, consider Huckabee’s psychiatric fitness to have held office in the first place (vis: 4 dead police officers in the wake of his decision) and, more importantly, to hold office in the future.
