Another step closer to sci-fi where crime scenes are scanned, on site, for DNA or it is used as an ID check for security purposes.

It seems a very small (if you ignore the laptop currently needed to use it) DNA  reader has been developed. Chances are it will plug into a tablet or smartphone one day. But compared to the existing readers is is small and cheap and everyone's got the odd laptop lying around.

It uses nanotechnology, a nano-pore that the DNA molecule passes through. The bases each provide a different signal so can be read in sequence. Clever, eh?

Remember, your inability to grasp science is not a valid argument against it.
