SisterAgatha, :smileshake:

You've been ignoring me since day one, that's OK, maybe lying and being rude is part of being a Catholic, I don't know and I don't care. You came here, we didn't go to you, so...yeah.

It is true. I can tell teh long story of my reversion to Catholocism, but I just enjoyed the hole it filled in my life.
So, if they fill your hole, why are you really here?

I enjoyed going back to confession and really letting some misdeeds and wrongs off my chest.
God, Jesus, the Virgin Mary, Angels and Saints...all those entities can't stop you from sinning? If they can't, who can?  :eyebrow:
We have therapists, now.  ;)

I enjoy the statuary and sense of community the Church provides. One disadvantage to being an agnostic/non believer is that I felt adrift in a large and bustling sea.
Oh, wonderful, so you drifted here, to our forum. OK.

The philosophy behind the bible and the writings of the saints/philosophers was really something to chew on as well!
Yes! :tellmemore:

OK. I give up. Its time I give you a little confession!

This may come as a shock to you all but I am not who you think I am. I am not in fact a nun who teaches at a little happy Catholic school.

I am in fact just a regular everyday sort of Catholic.

I was an athesit/irreligious for the longest time but lately I embraced the Catholic faith. I am surprised at how much sense it all makes, and never would have thought it would all those years ago!

Anyway.. I am sorry for the deception, I thought it was just a funny joke and more of a "little white lie" than anything else.

So...apologies...and hopefuly I cleared up any misunderstanding!

Well I'm glad you fessed up what I spotted on the first post. I didn't believe you then and I don't believe you now. "I was an athesit/irreligious for the longest time" bullshit. Now we're getting the sympathy troll. I really don't know what motivates people to do what you do. smh

It is true. I can tell teh long story of my reversion to Catholocism, but I just enjoyed the hole it filled in my life. People come and go, fail and succeed but no matter what, God,Jesus, the Virgin Mary, Angels and Saints are there to stay and are always on your side.

I enjoyed going back to confession and really letting some misdeeds and wrongs off my chest.

I enjoy the statuary and sense of community the Church provides. One disadvantage to being an agnostic/non believer is that I felt adrift in a large and bustling sea.

A sense of community and identity I found to be much more difficult to come by living without God so to speak.

The philosophy behind the bible and the writings of the saints/philosophers was really something to chew on as well!
Just remember your god is on your side should you suffer from a set of diseases that causes every day to be pain filled to the point where there is no comfortable position, you are at your max on morphine with no real relief from the suffering . . . Like a friend of mine. Remrmber sll thise heavenly bodies love you when tens of thoussnds are dying of disease and starvation due to natural causes.

If there was a god it would be a totally heartless entity.

It's all in your mind, Aggie, just a bunch of brain cells that give you a good feeling in your sorry little life. Say "Bahhhh" to the other sheep for us.

I don't feel bad or good about. She/he lies, a lot, for the fun of it. I wouldn't want to continue a conversation or a friendship with someone like that.   ;)

She/he is a Catholic, I am an atheist, according to some, she/he is "good," I am bad, I don't think it would work.

Initially I gave you the benefit of the doubt, SisterAgatha. It didn't take long for you to dispense with that benefit. I question whether you're capable of participating in good faith in discussions here. Your apology, like the rest of your schtick, is shallow and unconvincing.

Relax, "Sister" Aggie -- we all suspected you weren't a nun and knew you weren't an English teacher, not with all the grammar mistakes you make.

Back when you were an atheist, did you believe in the supernatural?  I know some atheists do, but most do not and I've always wondered what convinced people who went from not believing in the supernatural to believing in it.  The supernatural has always seemed the most massive stumbling block to religious belief for me.

I've known a number of Xtians who claimed to be ex-atheists, like this guy in this YouTube vid, but when questioned about it, it turns out they weren't atheists at all but just lapsed or lazy deists.

I worked with Bill Morgan for some 15+ years -- he was a civil engineer in the same Navy office where I was a contract specialist.  We would sometimes talk about religion at lunch, tho I always had to remind him that just because I talked about religion didn't mean I was  converting.  When I retired he gave me a NIV bible.

Is a "white lie" the same as lying for Jesus?  I get confused by all the loopholes Xtians invent for themselves.

In the case of practicing Catholics, all they have to do is go and speak to some priest about their "misdeeds" and "wrongs" and they'll perform some cleansing ritual and it's like it never happened, you know?
I'm just a student of the game that they taught me.

Sister A, you have confessed.  That is an obligatory Catholic ritual I am told.

Your original chicanery about being a nun is forgivable. The bit about being a converted atheist is not forgivable.  We have heard that one some many times as to make it a joke.  No way in hell....or heaven...or valhalla... that you were ever an atheist who converted to some form of deism or other fairy tale relief from reality.

Forgive me for lashing out at your absurd claim.  We are not atheists by the luck of the draw. We are atheists because we are thinkers, readers, pursuers of logic, students of history, students of physics, of astronomy, and most of all students of common sense who are not inclined to accept mythological, unsubstantiated, accounts of some person or entity that created the earth and all its birds and beasts and Adam and Eve and the talking snake and the immaculate conception, and the holy trinity, the infallible pope and  all that other incredibly naive manner of belief.

Some of us have been amused by your posts, some have even enjoyed them as a respite from the natural order of things.

Please continue with your posts because a circus does really need a clown.

I'm an atheists by the luck of the draw.

Anyways...

I would like all of us to remember what SisterAgatha said the first day she came here. After reading her first post, I realized that the biggest lie is not that she's not a nun, the biggest lie is her/him saying, "Im really looking forward to some  productive discussions!"
 :d'oh!:

Hi everyone.

For purposes of this forum my name is Sister Agatha!

I am a sister and teacher at a Catholic grade school/middle school somewhere in the midwest.

Forgive me for saying so, but I was intrigued by atheism and athesits, because at some level I don't really understand them.

Now now. I know Im just a little bit biased being a nun and all, but I almost find it impossible to believe that anyone coudl really live "without God".

God is love. God is smiling at a child's fingerpainting, playing a guitar and singing a lovely song, and quite frankly just being there with for someone when the've had a rotten day, and them being there for you. In my mind God is love itself, and for me living without God would be pretty lonesome!  :-[

I suppose some of the bible stories sound a little wild, but I could never imagine living without Jesus. Honestly when I've had a bad day at school and am ready to jsut call it quits, I say a little prayer to Jesus..and I can't explain it..He always gives me the strength I need to get through the day.

I am so happy you agreed to let me post here, and Im really looking forward to some  productive discussions!

Wait...

"Forgive me for saying so, but I was intrigued by atheism and athesits, because at some level I don't really understand them."
?????
Didn't you just say in your "apology" that you, "were an athesit/irreligious for the longest time but lately you've embraced the Catholic faith.?
 :eyebrow:

I can't believe anything you say, anymore.  :felix:
I want to, but I can't.  :offtobed:

OMG...I just love this Julia Sweeney video Books! Thanks for posting. I had never seen it before. I have seen her "God Said Ha" film, and have enjoyed her when she is on "This American Life", but this is great.

Anyway I watched half of "Letting Go of God" last night and will watch the rest tonight.

You know, if it weren't for Sister Agatha, AKA "Some Internet Dude Living in His Parents Basement" I wouldn't have had the joy of discovering Julia's video, so thanks Sista!

I do feel bad that Sister isn't really a nun because I was saving this for just the right occasion, now I'm kinda bummed I didn't get to utilize it...anyway it's NSFW.
