Oops, mis-read a quote there!

Meaning?  :query:

Thought a post was pointed at me when it wasn't.

Let me add some terms to the series. Now it should be easy to see what the rule is to generate a line.

1
11
21
1211
111221
312211
13112221
1113213211
31131211131221

OK, I will give the method tomorrow morning.

The problem here is that most people can only see numbers and then try to solve it mathematically. It is probably either impossible or very difficult to come up with a mathematical formula that generates each line.

1
11
21
1211
111221
312211

If one looks at it from a "right brain" perspective, it is clear that every line just describes the line above it. So, the second line states that there is one 1 above it. The third, that there are two ones above it. The fourth, that there is one 2 above plus one 1. And so on.

Claire saw it immediately:

This one I can do!

Hmm ok. But I don't understand adding new numbers. Plus some say 1 when it's blank above them. The fourth line is TWO 1s above it and not one.

Just read the 4th line out loud and say the words: "one two, one one". That describes exactly what you see in the third line. These are not numbers, so don't try to use math.

It's more of a word trickery puzzle than a number puzzle.
Line 1: 1
Line 2: 11 //There is one '1': "one one"
Line 3: 21 //There are two '1's: "two one"
Line 4: 1211 //There is one '2' and one '1'
Line 5: 111221 //There is one '1', one '2', then there are two '1's
etc.

I'll try a different way, how would we describe like 5?
How many '1's are there at the start? 3. So 31. How many twos are there after that? 2. So add in 22. And then how many ones? 1. So add 11 to the string.
"31" + "22" +"11" = 312211. So line 6 would be "312211".

Ohhhh I get it....Wow I get it. When I first started, I was trying to read things from right to left. I've never encountered a puzzle like this before.

Oh yeah, at first I saw it like you were describing, a lot like logical anding, oring, and noring things in programming. But that didn't fit with the adding in of additional digits.

Yeah I tried so many different methods haha. I never would have figured it out on my own.

Icarus

I blew the parking lot one big time. I am concerned that my brain is not as functional as I had hoped....there is still fun to be had so Keep up the good work, people.

I'll start with a simple one..........................

I opened a book at a random location. I noted the page number and the succeeding page number and the next and the next. Four consecutive pages.....  I added the page numbers all together and the sum is 294.  The Puzzle: what number did the first page have?  This is a basic math one and a party stunt.

Lady Claire The Shrewd,  is disqualified until later.

Arturo

I can do this!!!
