rational liberal

Hello to everyone on the forums, my name is rational liberal. I just wanted to stop by to introduce myself before I started tearing up the forums. However, first I have two things to state. Many of you may be confused about my name and why I choose it. Many of you may not care but I need something to fill this post up with, so please bear with me. I chose my name because obviously, I'm a liberal(duh) but their is a special reason why I chose the rational part. You see, these days a lot of liberals are embracing socialism. I, on the other hand, personally think that socialism is an unattainable, unrealistic dream that can never be achieved. Thus, to me it is irrational and any liberal that doesnt support it is a rational, realistic person. Now, before some of you barbeque me with flames I don't have any problem with someone believing socialism, their belief is their belief and I have no influence in the matter. I don't think that someone is stupid for believing it and I don't think myself superior to anyone because I disagree with it. Now, onto another important point, I am a Deist. Now, before I get completely banned for life from this site I just want to say that I'm not here to try and belittle you or anything like that. I believe that such a thing would be stupid and pointless because I'm no better than anyone else so why try to fake it. I am just as skeptical about religions as some of you are and see them largely as a tool to spread misery. I'm also here because I personally feel lost and don't really no what to believe about god or anything spiritual(Some Deist right :D ) Anyway I hope to have fun here debating and conversing with each of you and hope that you will help me see what being an atheist is about and the good and the bad(if there is any bad) aspects of it.

Hi rational liberal....everyone is welcome here so don't worry that being a deist would be a problem....I'm really not sure there is much of a difference between the way deists and atheists tend to view the world anyway...the only real difference seems to simply be how we view the possibility of a creator  that isn't involved.

You're absolutely welcome to the forum and being a deist doesn't get you banned or belittled, so worry not!

Thanks for the in-depth introduction. Rationality, I believe, is a hallmark of great thinking, and of atheism (supposedly). My thought to everyone I talk to about rational thinking, atheism, religion, politics, etc. is to make sure you know why you believe the things you believe.

So anyway, welcome, and jump in.

Hey rational liberal, welcome on board.  My political leaning is more toward libertarian, and I can't say I'm a fan of socialism.  I am, however, an atheist and not a deist.  Anyway, sounds like you have an interesting perspective to bring - I look forward to hearing it!
