Title: Greetings, Fellow Humans!
Post by: Paul the Human on November 22, 2019, 08:34:41 PM
At least, I assume you are all humans.  I have no way of knowing for sure, but... that's the way things go.  So, introductory post.  Here's a little about me.

My name is Paul.  I am 54 years old and stopped believing entirely when I was in my teens, although I didn't begin referring to myself as an atheist until I was about 30.  I'm a Progressive(ish), Liberal(ish) Democratic Socialist(ish). The problem being that other than "atheist", I can't find a word that actually describes my views, so I have to put (ish) after most of them.  My favorite label is Armed Liberal.

I am very opinionated and have a tendency to say what I think, usually as sarcastically as possible.  In the future, if you are unsure about whether or not I am joking... I probably am.

I am an entertainment junkie (movies, TV, books, music).  My favorites are Sci-Fi, Superheroes, The Blues, Rock, and Monty Python.

I work as a graphics designer/vinyl graphics specialist at a sign company (18 years at my current job).

I've been married to a fellow atheist for 24 years.  No kids.  2 Dogs, 2 cats.  Her 94 year old grandmother (with dementia) lives with us, though she doesn't know who we are very often these days.  Taking care of her is the hardest thing that we have ever done, but we are the only family in the state, so it falls to us to step up.

I was in the US Air Force when I was young (in the 80's) and never feel comfortable when people thank me for "my service".  One, it was peacetime... and two, I did for me.

Hmm.  Let's see.  What else?  I guess you can just ask me if you want to know anything else about me.  I'm open about (almost) everything.

Thanks for allowing me to soil your forum community!

Hello and welcome to HAF, Paul the Human. That was a fairly thorough intro, so no quizzing from me. I hope that you enjoy your time reading and posting here.  :blue smiley:

Thanks, Recusant. Most of the time I'll be posting from my phone, so I won't be so verbose. Heh

Welcome to the forum, Paul the Human! I'm glad you clarified that you are in fact, a Homo sapiens. :P It's usually what I first ask people upon meeting them.  8)

Now that's out of the way, my next question would be: how did you find our little corner of the internet? Was it via Tapatalk?  :)

I've actually known this place existed for a long time. I was a member of another atheist forum community 6 or so years ago and was aware of a few others.

I haven't been active in a forum since then, but I've kind of missed reading the discussions and tossing my thoughts around a bit while I'm at it. So, I downloaded Tapatalk and searched for atheist forums.

So, yes. I found you on Tapatalk. Heh!

No tacos and consistently posting through an external interface confirms my suspicions that this Paul the Human, is not so human at all.

The jig is up, I see through this veil of deceit. Nice try though, you get an E for effort.

Welcome, Paul the Human.

I do believe that you will find us friendly, intelligent, compassionate  We do collectively dislike D.T. Trump and his minions. Happily,  politics are not our major thrust, nor is religion.  We are fun loving and we have many interests.

My mother said that I was just as human as the other kids. My mother wouldn't lie to me!

Glad to hear that you don't stick to a single topic. That way leads to the echo chamber and can get boring pretty quickly.

I could write a book on the things I don't like about big T and his followers, but I'm sure I'll find a thread for those thoughts somewhere in the vicinity. I still need to do some exploring before I start tossing them in.

Just as well then, otherwise you'd be obliged to hate him.

Hello Paul
I used to be humanish but I've been injecting this stuff I got on Alibaba, I'm mostly dugong now, one day soon I'm going to swim away.

Tacos, tacos, tacos why does it always have to be Tacos?
How about somLarks' tongues?
I'd like some Otters' noses.

Thanks for making a human person feel welcome, everyone!

I almost forgot to mention... When I signed up, there were questions to answer and one of them was throwing me off. The question was something along the lines of "What measurement of distance includes the word 'light'?"

I tried "lightyear", "light year", and "light-year", but each answer was considered incorrect. It finally gave me three more questions and accepted my answers.

What was I missing?

Hmm, the correct response is light year. Strange that the software refused that answer. I'll try deleting it and re-entering it.

I'm glad you found us through Tapatalk. That alone is good reason to keep it as a part of the site. Now that you're here, and you intend to mostly use your phone to visit, I have a suggestion.

We have a couple of what are called "responsive themes" available. Essentially a responsive theme is a version of the forum layout that takes into account the device you're using to connect with the site, and modifies itself to provide a better interface for whichever type of device that is. You may need to do this from your PC/laptop, and my directions will be based on the interface seen on a computer screen, but if you'd care to try it out here is a brief rundown of the process:

1. On the home (index) page, directly below your avatar in the header of the page, you'll find a menu: "Home, Help, Search," etc. Click "Profile."

2. On the Profile page, in the "Modify Profile" section you'll find "Look and Layout." Click that.

3. The first item on the Look and Layout page will be "Current Theme." Click "(change)." On the "Choose a theme" page that will come up, scroll down to find "vVide" which I have been told is the best of the responsive themes.

If you don't like vVide, and prefer to use the default theme "Curve" on your PC while using Tapatalk to visit the site from your phone, it's easy to switch back by following the same procedure.

That's just what I'd expect a cunning no so human pretending to be a human would say.

P.S. I am still waiting for those tacos. Bring a variety, if you would be so kind.

I am currently on the vVide theme with my Chrome app and I like it on first impression. I'll stick with it for a while. Thanks for the advice! My only initial note is that it doesn't have its own icon (just the Chrome shortcut icon) when you add it to your home screen, but that's not a big deal.

About those tacos, to be honest, I'm afraid that I ate them. All of them. As humans are known to do. Does it help to know that they were mediocre at best?
